scared to death

okay y'all, my sx is Friday and I can't think straight! My stomach is upset, I stay in the bathroom and I'm not concentrating at work very well. I will be so glad when this is over. I work in the medical field, I know everything will be allright!!! So why can't I get it together?????? My ex DH will be taking my kids to Cancun for my first 2 weeks of recovery so it will be just me and my DH in a quiet house. I should feel blessed that all I will have to worry about is resting! Oh well, I just had to vent. Thanx,

lori

I feel ya!! You will be in my thoughts. Try taking a long walk at night to help relax followed by a long hot bath!!! You are very fortunate to have no kids for TWO weeks.

Best of luck

I know the feeling. My surg. is in a couple weeks and I am very nervous and am in the medical field too. I asked if I could make a request for music in the OR, so if that is ok'd I'll feel a lot better snoozing to my fav. singer!

I remember well how I felt in the days before surgery. Let me give all of you some hope, I had a great surgery, there was some pain right after surgery but meds took care of anything after that. I can tell you that whatever you are thinking, it is not as bad as you think. I had my surgery on June 22nd and would not change my mind

Luigilula,
My best friend said when she was being knocked out for her hysterectomy, her doc asked her what kind of music she liked to listen to. I told her if a surgeon ever asks me that, I would tell him to listen to whatever HE liked, because I want him to be happy and at ease while he's cutting me!

Lori,
Sometimes I think being in the medical field is a disadvantage when it comes to something like this. Even though you know doctors have this operation down to a science, you are probably used to seeing worst case scenarios, so those are always lingering in the back of your mind. But you know, when you get this over with, you'll feel GREAT.

I remember exactly how you feel. The closer my surgery got, the more I obsessed about it. I had a TAH/BSO and am glad to say all went well. The worst part was the few days in the hospital and the first few days at home. After that it was smooth sailing. I'm now 7 weeks post op and feel great. I lost weight, have'nt had any hormone issues and feel so much better emotionally than I did with PMS. No more periods! It's great - you won't regret it.

I am one week post op and I know how you are feeling! Isn't it amazing..I am an LPN so we have a lot of people with medical knowledge, but that still doesnt take away from the anxiety. I was so distracted the week before surgery I couldnt concentrate at all either. And I had the "food in, food out syndrome" too. It's okay to be anxious.

I am a week post op and except for some post-surgery nausea everything is doing okay. I am not bleeding at all and have some soreness but no pain. I had an abdominal hysterectomy and had an ovary saved. One had to go due to large cyst on it. I am glad I had it done and am so glad no more periods! YaY

Just try to relax and get your mind off things. The waiting is the hardest part of this surgery.

forget work

My surgery is August 1st. I'm a lawyer and I made it to court today, but it took all my effort just to get there and I knew I wasn't on top of my game. I had to continue a sentencing in a rape case because I just wasn't where I needed to be mentally and physically to properly represent my client. After that I decided I was cancelling my other scheduled court date this week. I don't think anyone should be expected to completely focus on their job when they are a week or less away from major surgery. We aren't robots. Just people with real life problems. The only thing I can focus on right now is this upcoming surgery. And I think that's the way it should be. Having the proper mental attitude going into this thing is up to me and if that means being gentle with myself this week... then so be it. Best of luck to you.
