Question about Pre-Op Appointments

I received a call today with my surgery time and pre-op appointment dates. They said I needed to have a pre-op with the hospital and then right after I finish with that appointment, I am to go to my doctor's office for a pre-op with her. My question is: What all goes on at the pre-op appointment at the hospital?

Thanks for all of your great advice!

Question about Pre-Op Appointments

At my pre-op they took a bit of blood and asked a few questions. I met with the anestesiologist (I doubt I spelled that right) and pre registered for my surgery so all I had to do that morning was walk right in. I was also told to bring in all of my medications and any herbal or vitamin supplements I was currently taking. All in all it was painless, the pre-op with your doctor is where you get to bombard her with all of the last minute questions. I hope all goes well with your surgery and your recovery! Good luck!
Hugs,
Aimee

Question about Pre-Op Appointments

I only had the pre-op with the hospital, not the doc. At my pre-op they took blood and urine samples and checked my weight and blood pressure. A nurse went through all the procedures with me, from the time I came into hosp in the morning of surgery to when I went home. We talked about pre-op procedures, how long the operation would be, medications, anesthesia, pain meds, etc. I've read where some women have a chest x-ray and an EKG too.

I would assume the pre-op with the doc would give you the opportunity to ask any last minute questions you've come up with, and he/she may do an exam.

Make sure when you go in you have all your questions written down, and don't be afraid to pull out the list. This is old hat to them, but to us it's new and sometimes hard to remember all the details.

Good luck!

Question about Pre-Op Appointments

Thank you for the info! I knew I would have the doctor pre-op for questions/answers...but the hospital pre-op confused me since they told me to be at the hospital two hours early for my surgery...I thought I would take care of the hospital stuff at that time...That will be great, though to have everything already handled!!

Question about Pre-Op Appointments

The doctor's office told me the hospital pre-op would only take 20 to 30 minutes, so I didn't quite know what to expect...Thanks for your input!!

Question about Pre-Op Appointments

If they are telling you to be 2 hours early for your surgery it is usually to get you admitted, do all of the paperwork that the pre-op nurses have to do and do any prep work you may need to have done. The doc usually comes in and talks to you as well as the anestesiaoligst (spelling). They usually get your IV started and do any last minute blood work. I hope that helps!!
