Hi to everyone.Well im nearly 6 months after my hysterectomy and the last couple of months I have been in alot of pain.I get sharp pains in my right side and also chest pains sometimes have lost so much weight Im skin and bones. My tummy aches.Keep on feeling sick and Im so so tired all the time.Sometime the pain can last for over 20 minutes at a time. Also had the really bad shakes. Its horrible.Saw the doctor and he said he is almost sure it is adhesions if it is what happens next?Is it more surgery? He is sending me for a scan just hope he does not take to long about it.Would be so grateful for any answers. Love dawn xx

Dawnie - I'm sorry you aren't felling well! What you are descibing sounds terrible! I hope that your doctor can find the source of your problems! Just so you know - adhesions do not show up on CT, MRI, or US scans. So don't be surprised if your test comes back negative. That doesn't mean that you don't have them! In fact, most people get them after having abdominal surgery (or most any kind of surgery) but not everybody has problems with them. On the other hand, some of us won some sort of sick lottery! If it does turn out to be adhesions, your doc will probably want to do a laproscopic lysis of adhesions. This type of surgery is less invasive - but depending on what all is involved with the adhesions - it can be painful. I just recently had one of these wonderful surgeries....it was my 7th. The problem with doing surgery for adhesions is that it becomes a vicious cycle. Most people have relief from the pain for a few months, but then they come back again. (NOT everyone goes through this.....) but you have surgery to get rid of the adhesions - and the surgery causes more adhesions - which causes you to have another surgery

As a side note - has your doctor taken a look at your gallbladder?! I understand your tummy still being sore from your surgery, and possibly from some adhesions - but the chest pain, weight loss, etc sounds a lot like it might be Gallbladder issues????

I hope you find some comfort soon! Take care!

I think they do the CT/US's alot of times just to rule out something else. But if they are going to do an Ultrasound anyway, ask them (the doctor) to include the Abdomen (gallbladder) on the order too. It only takes a little longer - and you will have to fast before the appt - but it would be worth checking out. CT's usally aren't used to diagnose Gallbladder problems - but they may be doing a Abd and Pelvis anyway, so that might show if there is anything to worry about.

The only real way to know if you have the adhesions (in doctors eyes, anyway) is to see them. But generally there are certain symptoms that go along with it - and in my case, I know I'm predisposed to getting them, so it's not a far mental leap to figure out what's going on when I start having problems.

Take care! Give your doc's office a call about the Gallbladder.....

Does this sound like adhesions?

I had chest pains and shoulder pain and lost weight without trying to. I had a GB ultrasound and that was the problem. AT 4 months post op I had my GB out, those nasty symptoms went away. For some reason females who have had children seem more prone to GB disease.
I am having a lapro to look for adhesions in a few weeks. I had extensive adhesions on my bladder and uterus and to abdominal wall when opened for my hyst in May 2004. I had 4 c sections, which caused them. I have stabbing, pinching and pulling type of pain going on. It just seems to be getting worst. My uro/gyn thinks it is scar tissue related and will fix anything he sees. My ovaries didn't show up on the ultrasound, so he said they may be stuck down. I have pain in that general area too. After he does the lapro he is going to do my tvt and fix my cystocele. I had 2 cats scan a year ago for abdominal pain and nothing showed up. My bad GB didn't even show any problems. I had a gb ultrasound a month after the cat scan and it showed the stones.
I hope you find the source of your pain and can get it under control.
