went to DR. for hematoma!

Wow, when my cat had a hematoma in his ear, they stuck a needle in there and drained what they could. Some of it has to just run its course, but they sure gave it a helping hand.

I can't imagine why you are having to wait for it to drain like this. Is there no way to stick a long needle in there and drain it? Like assisted with ultrasound? If they are doing 3D ultrasound so people can "see" their babies in utero, then why can't they locate the hematoma with ultrasound and drain it for you?

I'm sure there's a good reason, I'm just frustrated for you!!! Whine all you want.

Lots of s

went to DR. for hematoma!

I, too, had a hematoma (Tuesday) three weeks after surgery while the doctor was out of the office for surgeries and deliveries. I passed at least one blood clot per hour, and that was when I was in the bed. It was worst if I moved about. I called his office Wednesday and got his answering service. My husband and I went to his office only for him to be out of town that morning. Gyno's staff was NOT helpful AT ALL!!! We decided to go to the emergency room. The ER staff planted an IV, talked of admission to the hospital, and possible blood transfusion and surgery. My pulse rate was 130. ER doctor said that really scared him. Finally saw my doctor at 3:00 that afternoon. He basically said it was normal, which really aggravated my husband. He said that he saw one of the times that I passed blood and it was at least one third of a cup of blood the one time that he saw it. WHY DON'T DOCTORS WARN US OF THESE HAPPENINGS SO WE DON'T THINK WE'RE HEMMORAGING TO DEATH?!?!?!?!?!

went to DR. for hematoma!

It's A Blood Clot That Forms At The Surgerical Site.. In My Case It Formed On Top Of The Major Insicion (on The Inside) And Was Pressing On The Stiches (he Looked On Tuesday)
It Can Be Any Where From The Size Of A Pimple To Large Orange.. Or Bigger Lucky Me Mine Was A Orange Size, but Now He Says It's The Size Of A Egg. It's Really Bright Red Blood That Doesn't Stop! Until It's Done Draining... It Feels Alot Better Today It Should It's Been 14 Days...\

went to DR. for hematoma!

I too had a pelvic hematoma (the size of a honeydew mellon). I was black and blue from the waist down and it took 3 and a half years to disolve. After my hysterectomy (2nd attempt to complete) the hematoma formed and it just grew and grew. The doctors were mapping it with pen on my abdomen. I was starting to become the surgical ward's circus act. Eventually when I went home and tried to have the first post-op bowel movement, I popped my stitches and black blood came out of the incision area. I ended up with homecare for 2 months. When I had the 3rd surgery I also formed a hematoma. Fortunately this one was less complicated. Apparently you should avoid taking any medications that have anticoagulating qualities (Advil, Naprosen etc). I have interstitial cystitis and take a drug called Elmiron. It has anticoagulating ingredients in it but very little. They sent me for a battery of blood tests to see if I had von Willebrand's disease (a clotting disorder). I had all the symptoms but the factor VIII proved that I didn't. They know that I have some sort of clotting disorder but are unsure as to what it is. So just be careful pre-op with how much Advil or any type of anti-inflammatory medications.
