Lost and confused!

I'm new, but find comfort in knowing I'm not alone. I had my surgical hysterectomy 1-1/2 years ago and I'm still trying to find some normalcy. I am BRCA II positive, therefore the reason for the surgery (along with bilateral mastectomies). I'm not suppose to take HRT due to added risk of breast CA. I have problems with remembering things, no emotions, weight gain. I'm not experiencing menopausal symptoms, i.e. hot flashes, ect. Is anyone else in the same boat? I'm currently taking low dose estrogen and effexor. Any suggestions???????????

If you are not supposed to be taking hrt are you considering getting off of them? I would discuss this with the dr if you are planning to get off. If you plan to get off then it may be easier to tape off over a period of time to have less severe symptoms.

You can read some of the posts here on the forum on this page and past pages to see what others have used and are doing.

Also check out our Resource library on the left of this page. There is a No-Hormone section you might take a look at.

We are all different. What works for one may not work the same for another. You may have to give some things a try for a period of time to see if it works.

Lost and confused!

Yes, I was thinking about getting off. As you know, there are many conflicting answers. The oncologist that I spoke with when I first found out about my positive BRCA II gene informed me that he would recommend HRT for only six months following my surgery. My gyne and family practioner seem to think that taking a low dose of HRT is ok. The only thing that really bothers me is the forgetfullness, and weight gain of course. I worried a lot before my surgery but I don't miss that. Although lack of feelings tend to bother me occasionally. Thanks for the reply.

Lost and confused!

I am on a low dose estrogen patch and lately my appetite has been very hard to control. I never had this problem pre-hyst. When I ate something I was satisfied. I eat a regular small healthy meal and I am still hungry right after or in an our or two. I ate a bowl of oatmeal the other morning and and I was starving way before lunchtime. I also find it impossible to lose weight and have always exercised and eaten healthy and never had weight problem. I have about 9 lbs. extra on me, but a lot of people don't notice because I am not overweight.

I am considering cutting down or off because I hate this feeling of being so hungry, but I do have slight hot flashes and know that this will be bad if I get totally off. This is why I can't get off totally. I have made several attempts and just cannot stand to be hot and not sleep.

There is no easy way out, is there?

Good luck with your decision.
