customer service?

Sometimes my job makes me want to just reach out and choke someone. I'm in cash services in the gaming industry. I'm, what we call a front line employee. I'm out there dealing one on one with the guests, I'm smiling, laughing, joking and turning on my Leo charm. Ya'll come back now! Turn that twenty into a million bucks!

For the most part my job is fun, it's supposed to be, I'm supposed to make people feel like we've made a personal connection. Make them feel that when they come back in a year I'll remember them, when in truth I might not remember them the next morning. I'm good at my job, and most of the time I love it. What's not lovable about having great benefits, making 3 times minimum wage, rarely breaking a sweat, and having a schedule that gives me a four day weekend every 6 weeks.

The down side is that I have to put up with a lot of self serving individuals, with the the manners of wild animals. Loudly complaining about waiting in line, angry that we are allowed breaks in our job just like they have in theirs. The idea that I might want to go eat supper for half an hour is just out of the question. And how dare we change shifts! Aparently we are supposed to be at our posts 24 hrs a day without breaks, no meals, no going to the bathroom, nothing to drink! Heaven forbid should we have to do buys to replenish our cash, when they grumble about this I just say, well I won't refill my bank I'll just write you an IOU.

A couple of nights ago something happened that proved my suspicion that some of the guests don't see us as people, just like them, but rather like non persons, perhaps as thier pets? Or I'm not sure what? Anyway I was working at a station where the counter top over hangs the cabinet by about five inches. I bent over to pick something up, and when I stood up I hit my head on the counter over hang. I hit it hard, I saw stars, I got light headed, I was reeling from the blow, I was sure there'd be blood. I stepped back from the cabinet to get my bearings and take a couple of deep breaths, before I passed out. The customer at my window said, (and this is a direct quote) "You'll need an ice pack, Gimme fives for this." Years ago one of my co-workers, who was pregnant, fainted right outside my window, and security had to come and force the customers back so the EMTs could get to her. They were literally stepping over her to get to my window!

Thank the lord, that not all people are like that, I'm amazed that some are. I'm 50 years old and still wondering how we ever evolved to where we are now with people like that in our world.

I hope your feeling ok now with that bump on your head! I can relate...I work for a restaurant chain and I go around and set up the new ones...We had a lady pass out my our food bar and people were stepping over her to get food!!! One had the nerve to say "well your out of fried chicken"...I wonder what goes thru peoples minds someday????

customer service?

I can really understand what you deal with. I work at a casino in Las Vegas. I find most mean people are either tired, hungry,or losing all the money they should not be spending in the first place. I work at a local casino and it is small enought to get to know people. It seems they have to be told again and again that you have to go pee too and you are hungry and ready to go home. I try not to take it personal, its not me they are mad at. Also try to think of the total # of people you help, and remember the good ones, hope this helps some.
