going off climara patch

I would like to stop my climara patch, actually I was suppose to put a new one on Monday, but I haven't yet. Today is Wednesday, how long does this stay in your system: what can I expect? I have been using this patch for about 2 years now. anyone else, with same experiences or info???
thanks, shirley

Hi Shirley!

I've moved your post here to the No-Hormone Desert Oasis where others who have experience with stopping hormones can share their experiences.

Have you discussed this decision with your doctor?

Hi,

If you stop the patch it may take days or even weeks to feel the affects of getting off. I tried to get off several times and everytime I felt it almost immediately. If I go off this next time I will wean off over months time. If it takes me a year to do it without the symptoms then that is what I will do.

We are all different so it depends on your body and how it takes to lowering of estrogen and how your body has stored it.

You can wean off by asking dr for the next lowest patch until you eventually are off. I don't know if your patch can be snipped. If it has a resevoir in the center then it cannot.

I have lowered my dose since last November, and have some warm spells occasionally and I do not tolerate the heat well, but I sleep good and no sweats and no flashes so I am about ready to go the next lower patch very soon.

I wish you success on getting off. I believe it can be done, it just takes time.

i agree tho that self- weaning is not the best idea, because you are going from a full dose to no patch for x amount of time, no matter how long it stays in you system. do as april suggests and discuss with your dr; i believe that what suzy said about steadily lowering the dose would be what he/she recommends to make a gradual transition.
