estradiol SR? I am breaking my pills into 4's

Please tell me about this. I am on 2mg of estrace a day but have to break it in four pieces and take every six hour or I bottom out . . . ear ringing, headache, chills, hot and on and on... tried patches, also no good. After about 3 or four hours of putting on a patch, any strength I might add, I have this constant cold moist feeling on the back of my neck. My body seems to be using the estrace very quickly and then I have nothing. I feel OK most of the time if I take 1/4 of my tablet every 6 hrs or so. ( I tried this on my on by the way) It seems to work OK but is annoying having to take it this way. Would appreciate any info.

Hey Mattie, I'm sure some of the hormone savvy sisters will be along shortly to help you out but I was just wondering if you had tried Tri-Est, which is a compounded estrogen with the same ingredient as Estrace only it's in a creme and would probably be absorbed by your body more steadily.........just an idea!!

Well that certainly sound annoying. Estrace is available in smaller doses. That won't help the timing much - but you wouldn't have to break the pills.

What about estradiol creme? It doesn't sound like the oral delivery system is working for you. On top of that you may have been having some kind of reaction to the patches.

There is still the creme - which you might try next. Or - some have had great luck with the trouches ( little gummy things you dissolve under your tongue).

One other thing you may try is dissolving your estrace tablets under your tongue. It does give you a quicker rush of estrogen - but maybe because it bypasses your liver - it might stay longer in your system. Its worth a try - since you already have the tablets. I tried that for a while. They are not bad tasting -kind of sweet. You shouldn't really taste them, though. Let them dissolve either under your tongue or between your gum and cheek. Don't mess with them. If you taste them, you're tongueing them too much. Why don't you give that a try and let us know.
