No lymph nodes removed?

I was diagnosed on a Friday with uterine cancer and had TAH BSO with lymph node disection on a Monday. I didn't fit the picture of uterine. cancer at all so I was totally shocked at the diagnosis. All I heard was the C word and couldn't wait for surgery. It wasn't until afterwards that I learned of this wonderful website and the importance of having a onc/gyn. Well my surgery was 6 months ago and I was just going thru my op and path report and noticed that the sample which was to be lymph nodes, did not contain any lymph nodes at all!! I am RN at at this small hospital and the DR who did my surgery is just a regular ob/gyn and his brother the surgeon stopped in to supposedly take out some lymph nodes. I have known these Drs for years and really thought they were doing the right thing for me. My cancer is only 1A, thank God, but I am wondering about this? This is another case for consult a onc/gyn!!!!! Thanks for your opinions.

No lymph nodes removed?

Hi Lisa.
It sounds like your cancer was caught early since it is only 1A, so the likelihood of having positive lymph nodes is small. Was there any mention of lymphatic/vascular space invasion? Sometimes when there is evidence of tumor breaking into the smaller caliber vessels of the uterus it can be associated with postive lymph nodes. But again, I doubt that you would have this or positive nodes if the tumor was in the more superficial parts of the uterus.
If more for peace of mind, you probably could see a gyn/onc in consultation and have the pathology from your surgery read by a pathologist with experience at looking in gyn tumors.
I know what you mean about not fitting the picture. I'm 30 years old and with no risk factors. In fact, Harvard has an online risk calculator for endometrial cancer and after I answered all the questions my risk was calculated at "low." HA!
Good luck to you.
