cost?

I think mine was under $15,000! All hospital, doctor's bills, anesthesia etc.....etc..... included! I had a TAH.

The cost, will it shock me?

No matter what the actual cost of the surgery is (surgeon/anesteologist/operating room/supplies) all I will have to pay is $50/day or max of $250 for the hospital stay. I was told to anticipate a 2-day stay.

Basing the cost of what I've been reading from post threads, expect this type of surgery to cost in the neighborhood of $20,000 (when everything is calculated)

There is a thread in post-op about the cost of surgery, you should find all kinds of cost in there.

The cost, will it shock me?

I belong to an HMO so I just have to pay $100 but the itemized list from the hospital which did not include the Dr. (he's paid from HMO) was just over $23,000. I was in the hospital 2nights. Surgery Friday afternoon (TAH and BSO) and went home Sunday evening. Seems unreal.

Nmpcuties, please keep in mind when looking at the figures, esp if you look at the thread now going in post op that you are responsible for 10% of what the ins co approves. There was a big difference in what was chrged and what was approved. My hyst was about $27,000, total the insurance paid out around $8,000, and I will be paying near $400 out of pocket for all including preop testing. Hope this helps. I figured out yesterday that I averaged about $6 a month for sanitary items and then another $9/mo on BC pills, so over the next 20 yrs before menapause I will have saved alot, around $3600!!! Angela

The cost, will it shock me?

I started a thread yesterday about How much everyones hyst cost--search under my name and look for the thread. There have been lots of responses.

I had TAH with complication of bladder knicked so uro had to come in. In hospital from Wed til Saturday. First bill came yesterday and its over $20,000 already. I didnt even look into the cost before surgery. I knew it had to be done and if my parts alot---I will make payments.

Good luck

A lot also depends on where you are. My TAH was right in the neighborhood of $10,000 (4 day hospital stay) but with my insurance full payment was around $6,000. I have an HMO so my total out of pocket expenses were $15 each for two office visits, $10 for a prescription, $8.50 for TV in the hospital and $6.00 for the phone (of which I paid $2.00 because my phone was out of service for two days). I'm so glad we switched insurance companies last year!!!
