need to vent, am I crazy???

Hi Ladies,
Here I am once again, I feel like such a complainer and whimp, here is my problem...This past week I have been in pain so I am taking my pain pills in the morning after kids go to school and at night when I go to bed. Well I have also been running around the house like a mad woman cleaning, laundry and cooking. It is almost like I have turned into wonderwoman!! It's so weird I can't stop...the problem is when I sleep, I have terrible nightmares. Now I can't sleep! I know it may be my pain meds,(I can't live w/o them yet) but what am I suppose to do. I have tried reading, watching tv and quiet time before turning in, nothing has worked! I am literally running on empty and I don't have any idea what to do. Has anyone ever gone through this? I know I was nervous before my hyster but I never had this happen before. My DH seems to think I am loosing my mind!!! I only have 2 more weeks before all of this will hopefully be behind me but I know I can't go on like this!!

Thanks,
Mel

need to vent, am I crazy???

Oh Mel - I'm sorry! It's bad enough to be feeling as bad as you do - but nightmares on top of that!?? You need your rest now - and that certainly isn't going to help. Have you talked to your doc about this? It might be helpful to ask them.

And while I'm sure you are wanting to get a lot of things done before your next surgery - please try to not overdo it! You are already feeling bad - and running yourself to the point of exhaustion is not a good idea!

BTW - no one here thinks you are a complainer or a wimp! Don't be so hard on yourself! You are going through a very difficult time - and you are entitled to be scared and nervous. But don't let it control your life, either. You'll get through this. And we'll be here waiting when you come back!

Take care, sweetie!

need to vent, am I crazy???

Mel,

We must be peas out of the same pod talking about nightmares!!!! I have been having them too and chalk it up to nerves and too much going on!!!!

I am not busy though like you right now at home cleaning, being sick this week my chores are falling way behind!!! I doubt I will get everything in order here at the house, oh well, I know it won't go anywhere that is for sure!!!!

Do try and get some rest though, you need it, maybe your doc can give you something to help you sleep or have you tried anything over the counter??? melatonin or some type of sleep aide???

hugs to you Mel, hopefully we will both be off this road soon!!!!!!!!

need to vent, am I crazy???

Hey Guys!

Thanks for your words of encouragement I really do appreciate it!! I haven't tried any type of sleeping pills, all my med do cause me to feel drowsy, go figure! I think that is why I am so confused. I have a feeling that these nightmares are because of these pain pills!
I have no idea where my energy came from (to do all of this cleaning), I think I am "nesting". I remember I did that when I was preparing for my c-sections.
Oh yeah, did I mention that I have NO patience with anything, including my kids, it seems everything is driving me Nuts!!
Hopefully I will be able to overcome this soon!
Thanks again for all of your support!!!
Mel

need to vent, am I crazy???

Hi Meldie,

So sorry you are going though this stage...is does make you feel like you are going crazy doesn't it?? I was having the same problems so this is just what I do. I take my pain med at 8pm and then around 10 (hours may differ with your schedule) I take 1 or 2 Excedrin PM. That way I still get some OTC pain relief with the benefit of a sleep aide. With doing that now I don't have nightmares or dreams all night long..which then I would wake up feeling like I never slept...and the Excedrin doesn't make me feel drugged the next morning. Just a suggestion with what has helped me. You can also talk to your dr to give you a different pain med for the evening...I have also done that.

Even though you are superwoman right now...make sure and rest so that you don't overdo it and get back in real pain. But I am glad to hear you are doing so well during the day...can I have some?

need to vent, am I crazy???

Heya Mel
Sounds like you are having the same prob I had with one of my pain meds.
Although most patients experience drowsiness with certain pain meds, some of us, with certain pain meds, will experience hyperactivity. That is what I experience with one companie's generic for Lortab. I have the opposite effect with another companie's generic.
As far as taking a sleep aid, please take note of the ingredients in the pain Rx you are taking... if acetamenophen is a key ingredient, you should not take a sleep aid that has additional acetamenophen. If the sleep aid contains ibuprophen, though, you should be in the clear.
My suggestion would be to take a sleep aid without additional pain relief aids, if OTC is the route you want to go.
If the hyperactivity is bothering you, you may want to talk to your pharmacist about other companie's generics - or talk to your doctor about an alternative med.
If you can deal with the effects of the med, but just need your sleep and don't want to go the OTC route, talk to your doc... there are some great new sleep aids on the market now that are safe and non-habit forming.
I really hope this helps!
Warmest regards... and lots of s

need to vent, am I crazy???

Once again I want to thank all of you for your continued advise and support. I truly don't know what I would do if I didn't have all of you!

Well, I slept a little better last night! I took pain med earlier in the evening and then drank some sleepytime tea, took a warm bath and tried to go to bed early (that was fun for my kids! went over real well!)
I feel like I am on so many pills right now I think maybe I will just try new ways to try and make me rest better.
I only have a couple more weeks to go, hopefully I can just hang in there!

Oh yeah, all the energy I had must have gotten lost last night, because I can hardly move today! Go figure!
Wishing you all the best!

need to vent, am I crazy???

Hey Mel:

I'm right there with you as far as presurgical anxiety. I'm on zoloft though, so I have a bit of an advantage. Yoga at night helps me with sleep issues.

My challenge is that I can not have Zoloft the day before surgery because it could interfere with anesthesia. So, hope my doc brings a big spatula to scrape me off the ceiling!

Seriously, I will be resorting to my old standbys ... relaxation pose, and more than a few Hail Marys and Our Fathers. Once my doc shows up, I'll be fine. He's a very comforting presence.

need to vent, am I crazy???

Hi Michelle!
I will be right there along with you in the pre-op room! My surgery is scheduled 3 days after yours, I wish you luck!

My doc has me on lexapro it helps with my moods , but not too much on the relaxation!
Sometimes I feel like I should just have a drink!(or two!)

Take care and thank you!
