Bad Reaction From Anesthesia Again!

Hello Ladies,
Well once again I had a bad reaction to the Anesthesia! You know, I went into this MINOR surgery thing I crossed all my T's and dotted all my I's! I had found my old O.R. records from 3 of my previous surgerys which were done with spinals and the twi-light drugs!
The Anesthiologist was greatful that I brought them with me yesterday morning, and followed them to a tee...knowing that I had good outcomes as far as the Anesthetics went! Well they gave me the same quanties of Versad, Fentenal, and Propofal as I had had in those 3 surgeries. Well when they gave me the reversal drug I (little me!) became so violent, and 6 of them were trying to hold me down!! I felt "heavy" again but not to the extent of paralysis but heavy. I smashed my head several times on the bed rail in the few seconds they didnt have me pinned!! I could "hear" them but I coulnt control my body! I couldnt speak, but noises were coming from my mouth! It was convulsion like. They were pinning me down and gave me a second dose of the reversal and it became even more violent!! At that point my arms were tied down and they were basicly laying on me to hold me down! They kept saying how strong I was, and that I was going to hurt myself! So they had to give me more Propofal again to put me down before I did!
I will say this...they were all WONDERFUL!! One Nurse just kept almost in a bear hug just kept telling me, I was going to be ok...and they wernt going to leave me! Which at that point...I really needed to hear!!! They basicly let that Propofal just wear off and let me come out of it on my own! After about 5 hours I was able to talk and asked them WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED!!! The Anesthesiologist told me he followed the induction to the "T"! He said you need to have added on a medic allert bracelet...along with allergy to all anesthetic gases...allergic to Narcotics!
WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON!!! I swear Ladies...I never had bad reactions before these last 2! I have been telling them since my 5 blood transfusions form 4+ years ago I havent felt good! My body is falling apart...and now these BAZZAR reactions!!
They incouraged me to go for the extensive testing at a major facility..that I need to find out what is going on!! They told me STRICTLY PROPOFAL for anesthesia...no narcotics and no gases!!
Did I transmit something from one of these 5 transfusions???What other conclustion can explain all this???
Well I guess until they figure all this out any future surgery (to my bladder and rectocele/vault prolaps is out of the question!!! You know I always knew I was " UNIQUE" but this is rediculous!!!
So needless to say, I dont have any narcotics for the pain I'm in now! I will find something over the counter! The surgen wote me out a script for vicoden and I ripped it up!! I've had it!!
I do have a lovely black eye (from the surgery on the cyst and smashing my head against the bed rails!!)and my hand and feet are very sore...but I'm just going to "suck it up" because I've had it!!
Where this all leaves me I don't know?! When I started to come off the second dose of Propofal they said we need to put a foley in...that will wake her up! My sister was there and started to laugh and said...she's been self cathing for 7 years....it wont effect her!!! The Nurse just said "GOOD GOD"!!
So the MEDICAL MYSTERY survived another one!!
Arent I just....SPECIAL!!! JEEZE!!!
Take care ladies...this long road has a whole lot of "POT HOLES" in it for sure!!......Netty

Bad Reaction From Anesthesia Again!

Hi Netty
I feel so bad for you. I couldn't imagine going through a experience like that. I hope these reactions can be figured out, so you can get your repairs done.
I am glad to see you still got to come home. I hope your black eye goes away soon.
Take care and get some rest.

Bad Reaction From Anesthesia Again!

Oh Netty! I'm so sorry!!! I can't imagine going through what you are dealing with! That is just a testament to what a strong woman you are! IMO - talk with your surgeons office again - there are many pain meds out there that are NOT narcotic, but would be stronger than something OTC. Toradol comes to mind.....I know I personally can't handle morphine, so they give me Toradol as an alternative during/after surgery. But you're doctor should be able to help you with this! Make that call!

As far as finding out what caused your latest reaction - it is very important that you follow up....what if (God Forbid!) you were in some sort of accident and you weren't able to verbally tell the docs about your condition. It's important that you have everything documented - simply because your body has such a violent reaction to the meds. I would hate that you might hurt yourself post op!!!

Please take care of yourself....and I agree 100% - there are potholes hidden all over this Road!

Sending you tons of gentle s
Cortney

Bad Reaction From Anesthesia Again!

Dear Nettie....Thank God that is over. You are certainly a medical mystery and hopefully they can determine what is it that caused this terrible response in you. You must feel like you just got into a big brawl. Takes a lot of energy to respond that way so just give yourself some time to heal from doing battle. Hopefully these drugs will leave your system and you will feel better. Do contact the Drs and see if there is something safe for you to take post op. I have not been on the site much in the past months but notice how helpful you have been to everyone. Will definitely say a little prayer for you in hopes for a speedy recovery and end to this rocky road you are on. Hugs your way!

Bad Reaction From Anesthesia Again!

Thanks Ladies,
(Peggy), Thank you soo much. I hope they can get this all sorted out, sometimes just knowing why is comforting to and extent, and I feel you can deal with things better, but a bazzar as this, all it's it's driving me nuts!! Never mind how scarie it all is!! I guess I'd better order that medic allert bracelet!
(Courtney), I have a pretty high pain tolerance, so I'll be ok in that department I think. As far as the follow up, I will be calling my Neurologist Monday morning!! She's has been hounding me to an extent to have this extensive testing done, I guess I just have to cave...and get-r-done!! I really did NOT think I would have a reaction this time, because he had given me exactly what I have had in the past...something had definetly change in my system for sure! Thank you for your kind words!!...Netty
(Sandwoman), Thank you for your kind words!! And Boy do I feel like I have been through a brawl!! My head is what hurts the worst!! This is the second time I've had a reaction in less than a year! The last one was much worse, I was in ICU for 3 days paralysed, but it didnt make any of this last episode less scarey! I was just glad my sister was there and told them I could hear and feel everything the last time. So thats why they kept talking to me and telling me I would be ok! That was much more comforting then the beating I went through, with there vigrous "pain stimulation" the last time!!
Thank You for the prayer, I think at this point I need all I can get!!
You Ladies are soo wonderful...Thanks again....Netty

Bad Reaction From Anesthesia Again!

Oh... Netty, sweetie
I've been stressed about you for days... I'm so sorry about this experience. I'm just so glad that you made it through without further complications, love.
Please get that bracelet asap... and I'm w/the other gals... get in touch with the doc about something for your pain that won't have an adverse effect... there's no reason for you to suffer further when there are so many Rx's out there that are non-narcotic.
Again, honey, I am so sorry... Please PM me if you need a shoulder... You know I'm here!

Bad Reaction From Anesthesia Again!

Thank You Mel,
You are soo sweet! I have been corosponding with an Anesthestitis on-line and she's HOOKED!! Her words were "You are surely an enigma"!! She has told me that if she can help in any way to let her know! She also Thanked "ME", because this is something that they usually don't get to see..fortunatly, and I'm educateing her to an extent, by telling her what I felt, and the fact I could hear, would help her as she said "if God forbid , she ever has it happen to one of her patients"! She was refering to the previous reaction I had in November with the Paralysis, she said she has seen the combative behavier but it's been with "adolesant boys"....ALRIGHTY THEN!!! SOOO WHAT DOES THAT MEAN???? You got me!! But it seems I've picked up possibly another advocate or at least a place for referance!! As long as I can keep moveing forward with all this...I'll be OK! Thanks again Mel...Netty

Bad Reaction From Anesthesia Again!

Thank you Ruby,
I am feeling better tonight! As I said ,all the Nurses were wonderful, as was the Anesthitist! The Surgen was there also holding me down. My next appt with him ought to be interesting huh? Thats what I call a good second impression??! I out to walk in there with boxing gloves on, what do you think? He'll either laugh or really think I'm a LOON!!
I'm at this point going to try to move forward...They have got to figure all this out!
Thanks again Ruby....Netty
