Postponed Surgery!

Hi everyone,
I don't know if I did the right thing, but I left a message to my gyno's secretary over the phone that I'm not going through with the surgery until I see a gyno oncologist. The secretary said she'll have my doctor get back to me. Now I'm scared that I won't be able to find a gyno oncologist & that I'll be stuck on a long waiting list! In the meantime my condition may worsen-did I do the right thing? I'm very scared & confused.
Mori.

I don't know your situation and can't offer advice, but wanted to send a your way. I'm trying to make some of the same decisions right now. I'm planning to call a second gyn/onc. today and see what I find out. I'm not going to cancel my surgery until I'm sure what I'm going to do. Anyway, I'm praying God will give you the wisdom you need to make the right decision for you. Much love and prayers!

Hi Mori~

I can't say whether or not you did the right thing either.
I have read over your previous posts and feel as though whenever cancer may be an issue, you shouldn't waste any time. I also feel very strongly that you should be seeing a GYNO/ONC.

The following link may be helpful for you in locating a GYNO/ONC...
If you cannot get a referral from your regular gyno, research a doctor from this association. Since you are in Canada, just click on the link that says.....
If you are looking for doctors outside the United States, please click here.

Please don't waste any more time in getting the help you need.

Hi, since the doctor is to get back to you perhaps the office did not cancel the surgery yet. FYI, when my gyn had set up a surgery date, about 3 weeks in the future, I did not cancel the op date but did immediately seek appointments with gyn/oncs. I also called my gyn's office to advise re this; in fact my gyn phoned the next day to say that a gyn/onc already was lined up to be present during the surgery since my dx indicated possible cancer. I consulted with 2 different gyn/oncs anyway as in may case I wanted to be absolutely certain the surgery was necessary - probably also was in denial at that point.
If you gyn calls back, given you dx, pls advise your concerns again and perhaps their office would set up an appointment with a gyn/onc, I suspect a gyn/onc phoned by your doc's office and advised re the urgency of your surgery would fit you into their schedule soonest.
Good luck, peggiesue

You will never regret not having your ob/gyn perform the surgery. Even if no cancer is found. But if cancer is found you will be soooo happy that the surgery was performed by an expert called a gynecologic oncology surgeon.
At the very least consult with a gyn onc. Getting their opinion of the situation is wise.

(((Mori))) Try not to fret about this. Discuss your concerns openly with your doctor and perhaps s/he will help you get in to see a gyn/onc. I certainly think it's reasonable to request a consult prior to your surgery. It's possible that the gyn/onc might determine that the gyn is fully qualified to do your surgery, but it would be nice to hear that from the mouth of the expert.

Good luck! Please keep us updated!

I'm sure that wasn't an easy decision to make. You may very well have to brave the annoyance of your gyno. Let's hope he understands the reason for your decision. You are entitiled to make decisions about your own healthcare. Since I contributed to your original posts with my story about having a regular gyno, as opposed to a gyno/onc do my surgery I continue to be interested in how your situation in progressing. Please keep us informed. anna

Hi Mori

If you are worried about upsetting your gyne why not get the results of your CT scan from him/her and then insist on being referred to a gyn/onc for your surgery. I dont see why that should be a problem at all after all you are awaiting your CT scan results?? You might also want to look up one of your last threads as a wonderful lady from this board is also from Montreal and im sure she would be able to help you with gyn/oncs. BTW have you told your husband and family yet?
