Is this unusual???

I go in tomorrow morning for my ORS surgery, I have been looking over some of the pre-op instructions some of you were given. Well, I was not told to do any bowel preps or clear liquids...just nothing to eat/drink after midnight!! That was my same instructions for my hyst.!!
Has anyone had a surgery that wasn't told to do anything other than what I was told?? Does it make a difference?? I was just concerned... I guess I should have talked it over with my doc. earlier! (day late dollar short!)

Thanks
Mel

Hi meldie!!

I had no bowel prep either! it was because they were not planing to do anything with my intestines...alot of people have no bowel prep and some docs perfer it. I think alot just depends on the doc!

I will be praying for you tomorrow and please be a good princess and rest!!! Just let us know how you are when you feel up to it!! Don't push yourself!!!

I am calling jody tomorrow morning and telling her i spoke with you...
she has told me many wonderful things about you!!! I wish you nothing but the best!!!

Take care,

Is this unusual???

Hi Mel

I didn't have any bowel prep for my hyst either. I guess every doctor has their different instructions.

Good luck for your surgery tomorrow.

Is this unusual???

Mel,
I don't know if you have left already - but I wanted to wish you all the best! BTW - I haven't ever had to do a bowel prep for any of my procedures, either. Try not to worry. And let us know you are ok, as soon as you are feeling up to it!

Is this unusual???

Hopefully you are now resting after your surgery

The only time I ever had to do bowel prep was before my hyst and that was only because I was also having a Stage III rectocele repaired. Even then, I didn't have a clear diet restriction: just nothing after midnight

It all depends on the type of surgery you're having and your surgeon's preferences. The most important thing is to respect your Pre-Op orders: this way, your doctor knows what to expect.

Is this unusual???

Mel,
It's not unusual at all. While I had to do a bowel prep before my hyst, I did not have to do a clear liquid diet. I was instructed to eat whatever I wanted and to have a late evening snack. I've had additional surgeries since the hyst and none of them required a bowel prep. Actually, the hyst was the first time I had to do a bowel prep before surgery.

Hopefully you're home and resting and the surgery went well. I hope this brings you the answers and relief you are seeking.

Is this unusual???

Hi Mel
Yeah - you did it!
hope you are recovering and resting well

The only time I have ever had a bowel prep is when I had a colonoscopy and I have had several surgeries before and after tah/bso

hugs to all

Is this unusual???

I had to do a bowel prep before my posterior repairs. My dr. wanted me cleaned out before he operated in that area. I imagine it could be a mess.
