anyone had a blood clot

I was just wondering if anyone has had a blood clot in the leg.

If so I wondered what your first symptoms were and when did you contact a doctor?

Thanks,

anyone had a blood clot

YEs, I've had both Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) - not after this surgery, yet - and superficial thrombosis. Clots can present themselves differently in different people Here are some of the common symptoms: Swelling of one leg compared to the other; PAIN; area affected is often hot and red, sometimes hard, usually swollen. When it's superficial, for me, I can feel "clot" nodules forming. This current series of superficial clots I actually ran a 2 degree fever.
If you have these symptoms, call your doctor at once. My hospital instructions said to call in the event of any significant pain the the legs. This is imporant, because the first step is to stop the inflamation from spreading, and second to cnotain the movement of the clots. The only sure way to tell if there are Deep Vein Thromboses is to do an ultrasound (Doppler) exam that can detect where they are. They are not something to mess around with.

I had a blood clot in my abdomen, I was rushed back to the hospital 2 weeks after my surgery. Doc said it started developing within 48 hours of hysterectomy.

anyone had a blood clot

Hi,
I've been posting in the pre-op section. Don't have my 'date' yet, coming soon. I have been reading on clots, and this part I find really scary! How common is it?

Thanks,
Leasa

anyone had a blood clot

concerning my blood clot my Doc. said it was very rare, said he had not seen one in 11 years. I am actually a joke in the office, if its rare I will probably have it.My doc said there is an asterick after my name.

If you think there's the slightest chance of a clot, you must visit your Dr or ER as soon as possible. Symptoms present themselves differently, in different people. Self diagnosis on this one is not a good idea!

anyone had a blood clot

I had a blood clot (deep vein thrombosis) and was diagnosed 3 weeks post op. The only symptom I had was pain in my inner thigh. I had none of the other usual symptoms.

If you suspect a clot, please go to the ER. The only way to tell for sure if you have one is with an ultrasound of your leg.
