Passed a Polyp?

I had a very painful experience today and am wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience.

I was at work, fine one second, then the next was doubled over in pain that I can only compare to labor pains. I was pale, shaky, sweaty and sick to my stomach. It continued non-stop for about 20 minutes and during that time I started spotting.

Called the doctor's office. The nurse said I probably passed a polyp since I am currently on a high dose of Megace. My doctor later called and said she thought I had passed a blood clot or something that caused the uterus to contract and the cervix to dialate slightly.
I am sore in the pelvic area and have lower back pain now.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Passed a Polyp?

I had something a little bit like that, Dusti, three days after colpo bxes and endocervical scrape. Doubled over with intense cramps and sort of gas pains (except I do not get gas pains like that and had no reason to have them). Felt shakey & sweaty. Seems it was a couple of hours later that I noticed I had discharged a good size piece of tissue (not blood, but tissue) that smelled horrific.

It took me a couple of weeks to figure out that maybe it was tissue from the upper endocervix (necrotic, owing to odor), and that the cervix dilating slightly could have accounted for the pain.

My doctor was (as usual) completely disinterested.

Don't know if that is any help to you or not. Be well -- and be your own best medical friend.

Passed a Polyp?

Hi Dusti,

Sorry to hear about your pain. I hope you are doing better now. I just wanted to throw my two cents in and say that when I was in high school I had an ovarian cyst rupture and it very much felt like that. One minute I was fine (eating ice cream with some friends) and the next minute I was doubled over and extremely pale. My mom wanted to call 911. Hindsight it explains a lot, seeing as an adult I've now been diagnosed with PCOS.

Hope you feel better soon!

Passed a Polyp?

Rhodaruen, that sounds very similar. I thought I had major gas pains at first too.

Sorry your doctor sounds like such a jerk.

You are very right about being your own medical best friend. My gyn and I butted heads big time the first time I saw her because I questioned a lot of what she said. She went as far as to tell me to quit researching my condition on the Internet. I stood my ground and her demeanor has totally changed. She is very responsive to me and even calls me on her days off or at night if she sees that I called about something. I feel like one of the lucky ones.

Thanks for responding. It is good to know I am not the only one who has gone through that.

Passed a Polyp?

Jiggy,

Thanks for your reply. I do have a cyst on my left ovary and PCOS as well. My doctor suggested that maybe the cyst had ruptured and that was what caused the pain. I was hospitalized in May with severe abdominal pain that was caused by this same cyst and the pain today was totally different so I don't think it was a ruptured cyst. But, who knows! I will find out for sure when I get my long awaited TAH!

Thanks for the well wishes.

Tale care!

Passed a Polyp?

My last period (and I really mean my last period) I passed some good sized clots, so I think I experienced pain similar because as soon as they had passed, the pain diminished. I had to leave work because of the pain. Yikes! The stuff we endure!
Hope things go better for you!
