hospital stay

I was wondering how long my hospital stay would be. My dr said 2-3 days. I was wondering is the day of my surgery considered my first day? I am going in on tuesday 8 th what day should I be expecting to come home? Also we only have a truck do I need someone to pick me up in a car so it will be easier to get in and out of? I am getting more nervous by the minute I only have about a day and a half left and have read so many different stories here I do not know what to expect.

Hi, it's ok to be nervous. I was, too. But it's going to be better than you can imagine. I would definitely have someone with a car pick you up. You're not going to be able to step up into a truck.

Forgot to say...I went in for a SAH on Tues, came home on Thursday. Thursday after dinner was when I came home - worked out better for me to return in the evening.

I do suggest a vehicle other than a truck! Hard to get into, and they are not the smoothest vehicle! You will not believe what all you will "feel" on your ride home! I had a LAVH and we hae a mini van and that worked well getting into, not to low, not to high, I could lean back and put pillows between me and the seat belt. And our van was had a smooth ride. Have our driver drive very carefully whatever vehicle you are in!

If your dr says 2-3 days, plan on 2-3 days. Each person does heal at a different rate, but your dr will know what he plans to do for your surgery and what the general outcome has been for this type of surgery in the past. Follow all his intructions while at the castle and communicate with him and the nurses during your stay.

Best wishes for your surgery!

Thanks ladies I am coming up with new questions all the time. I feel like I am obsessed with my surgery cause it is all I can think about. I know I am getting on my families nerves and they will be glad when it is over.

Ask away! That is what we are here for! Do always make sure you take your questions to your dr as well, and get a second opinion before surgery.

If it helps, I drove my DH crazy with questions before my hyst, but by doing so, we both knew feel "we" made the right decision about my hyst.

I was told the same thing and am also going in on Tuesday. Last summer when we started talking about this he said 3-4 days, then as we scheduled it he has been saying 2-3 days. So I'm telling people 2-4! LOL.

But my question is how far in advance do you know when you can come home? My sister will be coming up Wednesday night or Thursday morning to stay with me until Sunday. My boyfriend will also be around, but this takes some of the pressure off him with work...he had to change jobs this summer and doesn't have the time off he used to have. Anyways, I've told my sister, we'll just play it by ear, but it would be nice to give her a little more info if possible.

Well, my doc & the hospital both told me 3-5 days, not including the day of surgery in my case because I was scheduled for 12:30pm & things didn't really get going until closer to 1:30pm. My surgery was Tues 11-01 and they sent me home Fri evening 11-04. They started talking about releasing me Fri evening on Thurs afternoon, so there was plenty of time to get things lined up. Definitely do not do the truck!

I had my surgery on a thursday and got out on Sunday..I did feel the bumps on the road though and I travel that road all the time and never noticed thenm before...We went back on that road about 4 hours later going to church, DH thought we should stay home but I needed to be there I had soooo much to be thankful for. If the truck is all you have you might make a step to climb up on ( a sturdy box)Your wait is all most over, today will be a hard day for you I remember the before part. I will be aty 2 months tomorrow and NOTHING hurts anymore it was all so worth it, Godspeed with you..Hug
