Just dont know

Hello
I just had my hyst. on Oct 17,2005 I guess i am going on my fourth week. So much has happened from the surgery to now. Emotional and physical. Emotional well noone can do anything right and boy my nose smells everything passing by. Then a few days ago I hurt so bad the dr asked me to go to the emergency room to be checked, Now i have a urininary tract infection, I also have a really bad cold, coughing so bad my tummy hurts, and wet myself, so wearing those pads I was going to hand away. Then.... now have a boil on the panty line.
I am so discouraged and cry at the top of the hat so bad for nothing. I know well... hope that it will end real soon. But when???

Sorry to hear you are going through so much! I read from your profile that you kept your ovaries? Even so, it can take a few months for your hormones to settle back into place. I read that when you have your uterus removed, it can temporarily mess up the blood flow to your ovaries. It is normal for your emotions to be all over the board for the first few months. Maybe if it gets to be too much, your doctor can prescribe a low dose hrt until things balance out for you. Also, the trauma of the surgery itself and all the pain killers and anesthesia in your body can throw you out of whack for a while. It can take a good month or 2 for all that to clear out of your system.

I also have a more sensitive nose since my surgery and absolutely can't stand the smell of perfumes! And I have had three colds/sinus infections over the last 4 months. It seems like one thing after another. I think it takes a while for the immune system to strengthen up too after surgery. I have been taking vitamin E, B complex, vitamin C, Omega 3 Fish Oil, and calcium, vitamin D, and magnesium to help my body along. So far I havent gotten another cold and several coworkers at work have had one this week, so maybe I am over the worst. I can't help with the UTI but I have read that a lot of women on this site have suffered from those post op, so this isn't uncommon. Hopefully someone can come along to help with that. Just hang in there! It does get better, although for me I am still struggling with hormonal imbalance but then I had both ovaries removed. Take care of yourself and just know that you are not alone!

Big hugs dfroggyw. I had a cold the week after my op and coughing and sneezing hurt so much! I kept trying to stop the sneezes by holding my nose and it worked for a while but then I just had to sneeze, so did this little controlled "shoo..." like scaring flies from the sugar bowl and it wasn't so bad. Every time a cough came on I swigged from my water bottle and that helped too. Do hope you feel better soon.

Hi dfroggyw- We are REAL sisters, I had my hysterectomy on 10/17 too! I am 50, thank god have had no really side effects, except for the swelly belly, and it felt like a diaper rash above the pubic line and the belly, in the fold. When I feel like I have to cough, I also carry a water bottle to help hydrate. I also have had a yucky taste in my mouth no matter how many time I brush my teeth, gargle, etc, since the operation!

Funny you should say about taste, i seem to have lost some sense of taste though have no cold symptoms, crave salty foods and putting way too much salt on food, so drinking a lot to try and flush it all through!

Just dont know

Had my hyst in June and my taste is still off. I still can't taste chocolate, which I used to live for. And crave salty foods too, can't get enough potato chips. Although I can't taste salt near as strong either. My nose is not oversensitive. I am not too emotional, so I think the hormones have settled. Give yourself some time. That is the hardest part.

Just dont know

I am only 6 days post-op TAH/LSO and am going through some emotional/anxiety type symptoms, even though my dr said it wouldn't be bad, he did tell me to sort of expect some kind of hormonal imbalance due to just having the surgery.

I feel imbalanced for sure! I am hoping that with time, it will improve. I am hypothyroid in addition and take thyroid medication. The last year or so my thyroid levels have been pretty unstable and the dosage of my meds has had to be changed several times. Due to my thyroid condition I have suffered from some bouts of depression/anxiety specifically when my levels are off, so I am no stranger to it, but I am just hopeful that the surgery doesn't send me way off into the wrong direction.

I am staying positive, because after all, it hasn't even been a week.

I just need to say that I am so grateful that this site is here and there are so many of you to share these things with, so many people just don't understand and it's so great to know that you all do! THANKS!
