2 year check today. What is CA125?

Today I had my two year check up (I attend every six months) after a TAH for a clear cell endometrial cancer which was grade II but aggressive. The Oncologist was extremely pleased with me.
In the last two years since the operation I have had a colonoscopy (everything fine), MRI scan (fine, ultrasound (fine) and a camera up the bladder which shows radipotherapy damage only - nothing sinister. My oncologist decided I needed to have a CA125 blood test (what eactly is this?) as a matter of precaution as the type of cancer I had should benefit from this blood test. I am having massive panic attacks etc about this and am scared. He seems to think I have nothing to worry about. I did tell him I was tired but after the builders being in for the past four weeks (I now have a lovely new bathroom, kitchen and french doors in my back room) he was not suprised. Guess I just need a big dose of reassurance here girls.
love

2 year check today. What is CA125?

The CA125 is a blood tumor marker test that is useful in monitoring response to chemo in persons with ovarian cancer. It can also be used to monitor remission and recurrence in people for whom it works. It is one of a trio of tests used to look at the possibility of ovarian cancer; however, as a diagnostic tool it is not that reliable as some women will have false positives due to time of month, infection, and endometriosis and other women will have false negatives as their tumors are not putting out the protein the CA125 picks up.

2 year check today. What is CA125?

Until I got cancer, myself, I didn't know there were so many kinds of cancer. I thought if you had liver or endometrial cancer or any cancer, that was one kind. But nooooooo. There are different types of each cancer! I wonder if there's a "principle" of cancer? Because, if doctors could determine the "principle" of cancer, we could use that principle to make our money multiply at cancerous speeds.

Dumb humor aside, I am glad to hear you are a two year anniversary. That's good news.

Congratualations on your two year anniversary!!!

Of course you are a tad freaked about the test. NOT for one moment do I think you have anything to be alarmed about. It's just the nature of "having a test"........ and the dreaded "waiting game".

Think of it this way........ it's always a good thing to have a baseline reading.. to find out what is your normal range.
Your doctor sounds like he/she is being overly cautious, which is a good thing,... it shows how well taken care of you are.

I'm not even going to say "good luck".. I just feel that everything is fine. I will say............. hang in there.. I KNOW how hard the waiting is. (that is the only thing you need to get through...... how to keep your mind from playing tricks on you, untill you hear the words all is well) Which you will..
