Generic estradiol vs. Estrace

Hi, I just had to switch from the brand name Estrace to the generic estadiol, because of a manufacturer long term back order. I'm having some definite hormonal changes, with interupted sleep, some flashes and pms stuff. My gyn that started me on Estrace a long time ago did it because he had heard it absorbs better than the generic. But it feels more like the opposite like more estrogen is absorbing. Anyone out there ever have anything similar happen? Thanks for any replies! Lou

Generic estradiol vs. Estrace

Lou,
While I haven't used either Estrace or the generic, I have read that there can be a difference between the two. How long have you been on the generic? Any change in hrt can cause symptoms as the body adjusts to the change. Hormones are a delicate balance, it doesn't take much to upset that balance.

If you haven't been on the generic for that long, you may want to give it some time. Keeping a journal during this time can be very helpful. It can help to give a clearer picture of what is going on and if things are getting better or worse over time.

One thing to keep in mind is that we are all different, so just because some women may have a slower absorption with the generic, does not mean that the same is true for you. If you've given the change some time and you're still feeling like you're getting too much estrogen, it may be time to talk with the doctor about tweaking the doseage. Or perhaps splitting your dose.

Thanks Kim, I have only been on this about a week, and my hormone balance is very easily upset. I'll hang in there a while longer. Lou
