This bill, S.1172 was re-introduced 6/6/05 in the Senate. It will provide funding for gynecologic cancer education and awareness.

Right now, the bill is in desperate need of Senators signing on to cosponsor it. Only 29 Senators have signed on as cosponsors.\

Karenann in NJ is fortunate--her Senators have signed on, as has her representative (H.R.1245). Some of us (Wisconsin() have no Senatorial cosponsors.

Please check out the site and if you wish contact your Senator (and Rep) and ask him or her to sign on.

GYNECOLOGIC CANCER AWARENESS--it is needed!

This is sooo important!! Ovarian cancer having no early diagnostic test, it all depends on an awareness of symptoms to empower women. I have found that phone calls to their Washington office works the best. Just ask to speak to their health legislative assistant. And make sure you identify yourself as a survivor.

PS Yeap, I am proud of NJ. Both senators and member of the House of Representatives has signed on. Democrats and Republicans alike.

Yes! Both NY senators are signed on, and my representative (Rockland/Westchester county). If your reps are signed on, remember to thank them!

More on what's currently going on in New Jersey with respect to ovarian cancer. (I just saw a segment on this on New Jersey Network News).

"Advancement in women’s health took another leap forward at Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC) as Acting Governor Richard Codey joined the medical center in announcing its new ovarian cancer program, The Maureen Fund, of The Cancer Center at HUMC. The program, named after ovarian cancer survivor, Maureen Roehnelt, is dedicated to prevention, earliest detection, and the cure of ovarian cancer."

Ms. Roehnelt is New Jersey Acting Governor Codey's executive assistant and the program willl be receiving $3 million in state funding. Also, the Acting Governor announced on NJ Network News that his mother died of ovarian cancer last year.

You can check out this link for more details on the program:

Hey MoeKay

Thanks for the headsup. Our new governor John Corzine also has a close connection. His campaign manager, Susan Bass Levin, is a survivor. NJ is doing good things these days.

Thanks for posting this for all to see margaret.

Like karenann, I'd like to think my hard work in writing/calling my rep's played a small part in it being sponsored in MD as well.
karenann: John Corzine is such a strong advocate of this as you said. Do you recall me telling you that I used to live in NJ? I also had my other sister in FL (my home state) get started with letter writing/phone calls and now they have come on board too.

Ladies...if your states are not being represented...please start contacting your rep's.....it does make a difference!

I sent out a personal letter to some of my good friends, encouraging them to reach out to people they know throughout the United States to help build momentum. I've gotten several good replies. Let's make this really work!
