Help-Panic over HRT

I had my surgery (TOH) Nov. 7 for endometrial cancer. My Dr. says no further treatment is necessary-yes! Because of anxiety & hot flashes, etc, my Dr. prescribed .625 dose which I have been on for about 2 weeks. I was hesitant because of my family history of breast cancer, but I was also afraid of what would happen to me if I didn't take hormones. Generally, I started to feel better, but recently have developed breast pain. They've now prescribed a lower dose, but I wonder if it's really worth taking this stuff at all. Are there natural alternatives that offer the same benefits without the risks? If I don't take hormones, will my aging accelerate (I'm 41). I am stressing so much about this that the anxiety of overwhelming me. Has anyone else struggled with these issues? It's so much to deal with. I just want to be myself again.

Help-Panic over HRT

Hello! to Hyster Sisters and the Hormone Jungle!

As you can imagine, lots of women have faced making the decision whether to use hormones or not. We have to weigh the potential risks and side effects against the benefits. It's good to discuss your concerns with your own doctor and even seek an additional medical opinion if you want. It can go a long way for peace of mind.

Breast pain can be a symptom of too much estrogen so cutting back your dose is logical. Sometimes when that's the only symptom progesterone is added, but if you do well on the lower dose, that's good.

There are a lot of good articles on this site you can read which may help you with your decision. Start out with the Hormone Jungle Articles and if you want to read more than that, the Hormone Jungle - Hormone Resources section of the Resource Database has tons of information. With breast cancer concerns, you may also want to read some resources in the section called Cancer - Breast.

If you really don't want to use hormones, you can read about options on the message board called No-Hormone Desert Oasis. There's a section in Resources called Hormone Jungle - No Hormones to help as well.

Good luck! I'm sure you will make the best decision for your circumstances.
