I'm scared!
My doctor told me that I have a fibroid the size of an orange or larger, approx 7 cm. She is going to try to do a vaginal hysterectomy and leave the overies but take the cervix. No guarantees that it will be vaginal. I'm so nervous as I bleed a lot during my last surgery and I'm still very enemic from it. Hopefully, my last iron infusion will be enough for me to have the surgery safely.
This is all such a suprise to me to have something foreign growing inside of me!
I have had very heavy periods for the last 3 years and look forward to not changing pads every hour or so! I just knew something was wrong but guess I didn't want to believe it!
My surgery is January 11th... Yikes, I'm glad someone told me about this website!

I'm scared too, so you aren't alone!
Hey Jan!
Hang in there. I know it's scary, knowing there are "foreign" things in your body. And the heavy periods have been a pain. It does come as a shock, I'm sure.
But I'm glad you found this site. The ladies here are great support, and I have found that you can ask just about anything and get answers and support. I have spent a lot of time on this website just easing my mind, and getting my questions answered. When I know I'm not alone, I feel much stronger! Just remember, hysterectomy is one of the most commonly performed surgeries and your positive thought towards the outcome will go a long way.

I'm scared!
Hi Jan:
Welcome to the site! You'll find it is a relief to know there are others out there who know what you are going through. And there are a lot of us with Fibroids, I have seven of the little buggers myself and am fighting anemia too. You'll find a lot of good advice and many opinions here and no question is too much or too silly...we all have our own fears, uncertainty and confusion about what our bodies are putting us through. And you'll find the site is addicting because there are real life answers to compare what you are going through.
So hang in there.

I'm scared!
Hey Jan,
I had LAVH this past April. That dude was huge. It even surprised my doc. It was bigger then the average cantaloupe. 2lbs. Thankfully he stuck with it and managed to take care of it vaginally. My 2 hour surgery ended up being 4 hours but I didn't care, I was OUT of it. My hubby was kind of concerned. I also had to deal with anemia. I had to stay in the hospital 1 extra day but other then that everything went great. I felt so good I kind of felt guilty for being off work for so long.
If you have confidence in you doc and no surprises pop up you should do wonderful.
Good luck
Melanie

I'm scared!
Hey Girl, Came as quite a surprise to me too when I was told I had something in me that shouldn't be there (found during yearly check-up at health department) long story short, three weeks later and a new doctor...had TAH November 17 - fibroid was the size of a baby's head. It was just so weird to know there was something in me like that and I didn't know it. I said afterwards that you would think you would feel heavier there or at least be able to tell something when you laid down...nope I know you are worried and all, as I was, but one thing we have that others may not is this wonderful site! I wish you all the best, Merry Christmas.
