Dec 13 TAH Postponed Because of EKG

Well, I'm not post-op as I had hoped. On Tuesday, they had me all prepped and I was literally at the door of the O.R. when the anesthesiologist decided he didn't like the looks of my EKG report (heart not getting enough blood). So I have to be cleared by a cardiologist first, then they'll reschedule ASAP. My regular doc said that a low blood count (which I have consistently) can interfere with the EKG. I'm hoping that's all it was. I have an appointment on Tuesday with a cardiologist and will go from there. The waiting is getting almost unbearable. But also worried about my heart now. Will it ever end????

I will be praying for you! I had the same thing happen and I went through all kinds of test by my cardiologist. I finally got the needed clearance and had my surgery.
Keep the faith! I hope and pray that your heart is fine so you can get the surgery.

Take care!

((( Mountain Miss ))), I'm sending lots of prayers and hugs your way. Please let us know what you learn with the cardiologist.
And don't forget to change your surgery date in your profile. Some of us ( like me) tend to forget if it's not up there as a reminder.

Mountain Miss,

Ditto for me. Luckily, I was able to see a cardiologist and have additional testing (another EKG & an echocardiogram) prior to my surgery date. Everything was fine and surgery went ahead as scheduled.

Hang in there! Let us know how you make out with the cardiologist.

Mountain Miss,
I had this same thing happen, but mine was stopped because my potassium levels were so low. I was prepped and ready to be wheeled in the door any minute. I understand what a shock it is. You have yourself all set mentally and physically to get it over with.
It is good to know that they are paying attention though and it is all for our safety. I hope your tests with the cardiologist will turn out fine and your surgery won't be delayed too long. I actually ended up being grateful for the extra time. I was better prepared with the two extra weeks it bought me.
's, Rita

Thanks for your encouragement. It is such a help to know that others have gone thru the same things. This website has been a godsend. One thing that occurred to me about a faulty EKG is this: since my GP doc said that a low blood count can interfere with an EKG is it possible that the very thing we're trying to get rid of is causing the heart irregularities? I have had the same thing show up on EKGs in the past, and I had a heart study done, plus carotids (sonograms) and a followup by by a vascular specialist. No one could find anything wrong. Now i'm wondering if the continual blood loss is at the root of everything else. Kind of a catch-22 situation, huh? Does anyone else have any reason to think this might be an explanation? Anyway, my cardiologist appointment is tomorrow and I'm hoping things will go well. Thanks again for all your replies. Of course, Aunt Flo is back, thumbing her nose at me, as if to get one more jab in.
