Will I need pads?

I have been on non-stop hormones to keep me from having periods and when I did break I used the menstrual cup instead of tampons or pads. Well, I don't have many pads stock, so I just wondering if I will need to have some on hand immediatly following surgery. Maxi or thin? I didn't even think to ask my docotr this! Having laproscopic vaginal assisted hysterectomy. Thanks for your advice!

Will I need pads?

I just used pantyliners, but I had an abdominal, so I don't know if the vaginal has more discharge.

That's a question that really can't be answered. Each one of us is different and the amount of bleeding or no bleeding after surgery seems to differ no matter what type hystectomy you have.

I had a TVH and didn't have any post-op bleeding. My doctor did tell me that I might have some bleeding/discharge afterwards but it shouldn't be more than a period. I kept waiting for it to begin and it just never did.

Best wishes for your upcoming surgery!

I agree everyone is different. I expected a little bleeding but was unprepared for 3 wks bleeding then discharge as stitches dissolve. Panty liners have worked well for both.

I had the LAVH, and pantiliners are fine. No bleeding really, more like a discharge. One recommendation I would give, is get the kind that has a mesh type liner, more comfortable I think. They do keep you somewhat 'drier'.

Good luck with your surgery!

I had a TVH on the 21st and have had no discharge or bleeding whatsoever. I keep a panty liner on just in case but so far nothing.
Yay!!!

Well, I had a TVH on the 19th, and have had a steady pinkish discharge -- a little blood, a little fluid it looks like. I bought pads, so I'm using them up, but I might have been able to get by with liners instead, I think... Mine doesn't show any signs of quitting, but it's pretty much the same tablespoon or two's worth every day... Hope that's not TMI!!

I had TAH on 12/6 and have not bleed at all! I did however take pads with me, and I am glad I did. As I am a fluffy sister, those first few days was hard to bend a bit to wipe after TEE TEEing. I would try but not always made it to where it needed wipeing, so the pad caught the extra. This way my panties didnt smell of urine. It was a good thing for me to have them with me.
Good luck and best wishes!

THANKYOU! I just went and put some pads in my bag as I'm a bit fluffy too and am expecting to be a bit unable to reach all the areas I'll need to. Great idea to have some handy for this use!
