Pre-op Cleaning
Hi, Im having a TAH tomarrow (27th) and I have been reading all of your questions and remarks for pre-op and I have noticed that quite a few of pre-ops have to clean their bowels. My Doctor never even mentioned this and Im wondering if this is something that is normal procedure or each doctor has their own opinion?
Thank

Pre-op Cleaning
You know, I have wondered the same thing. My doctor hasn't mentioned a thing of it yet either. I am scheduled for Jan 3rd. I go in for my lab work tomorrow so maybe they will bring it up then?

Pre-op Cleaning
I think each Dr has their own pre op prep. I had TAH/BSO and A&P repair, all my Gyn wanted was no food or drink after midnight. When I was scheduled for my second A&P repair the Uro/Gyn wanted a bowel clean out and douche with betadine. So, I think it's each Dr's personal preference. Good luck tomorrow!

I had my TAH on Dec 6th and was told by my Dr it is necessary to bowel prep when you have abdominal surgery. He said there are many reasons why you would need to do it...so I did it!
I wish you both the best of luck!

Pre-op Cleaning
I've seen some people who had to do the bowel prep and others who did not. I believe it's entirely up to the physician/surgeon as to how he wants his patient prepared.
Best of luck with your proceedures ladies!

Pre-op Cleaning
I had my "bowel cleansing" all day one week ago...tah Dec 19. my doc has all her tah's do this because it's abdominal surgery, in case of nicking the intestines or whatever. it wasn't particularly unpleasant, but she wanted nothing but clear liquids in me the day before...broth, lemon jello, gatoraide, gingerale. i used phosphosoda to cleanse...it was not so bad.

Pre-op Cleaning
When I had my hyst. I didn't have to cleanse my bowels. Now I'm having my remaining ovary taken out tomorrow and I do. She wanted me to this time because she's afraid I may have adhesions on my bowels and she's pretty sure the endo is back. I'm right now in the process of cleansing my bowels (that's a nice way to put it) and it is NOT fun!!! I'm drinking the go lightly. It should be called go running. WOW! It sure does work fast but it's awful to drink. I haven't even got half of it down yet.

Pre-op Cleaning
I just finished my clear liquid diet and bowel prep. My doctor also advised it. The information in these forums has really been helpful too in preparing for tomorrow.

Pre-op Cleaning
I had a TAH/panniculectomy and had no bowel prep or special diet at all.
When I got to the castle, they had me give myself two enemas and a betadyne douche.
Hope this information helps!! All my best as you prepare for the castle.
