My doc just called

Hi ladies, my doc just called to find out what I had decided. The thing is either I misunderstood (more likely) or he misunderstood. I thought he could do a diagnostic lap then go back in about 6 weeks and do what needed to be done. He says that doing a lap will only help to remove my left ovary and the endo. That if I want my uterus removed, he needs to do an abdominal due to the already large amount of scar tissue. So - now I have to decide. The way I understood him today was - uterus out along with the above mentioned we go the hard way. If I want to try and save my uterus - we do a hystersalpingogram, then the lap surgery. I'm so confused. I really wanted him to to a diagnostic lap - find out what's going on in there, lets talk, and then eventually going back in to fix the problems. Am I being unrealistic? This whole thing is driving me crazy. I can't sleep, and have been on my period this week. i think the fam wants me to move. Just kidding - but I have been a little difficult. Help!

I think you need a better talk with the doc so you are sure about the options. I think the uterus matters depending on your age and its health.
Talk to your doc say you are confused and want things explained better!

My doc just called

Sandy,

I think I would make an appointment with your doctor and go in and have him explain it to you face to face. I made some of my decisions over the phone too and it is very hard to do. I am going in for a more detailed exam and consult 4/16. I already have a surgery date of 4/25
and I have yet to talk to the doctor about it face to face.
I needed a fast appointment so I have been to his Nurse practioner who recommended the hyst.

I personally don't think it is so unrealistic to have the lap and then decide later to do the hyst. Many of us here have a laparoscopies and then later have decided on the hyst. But what I think he means if you are going to wind up with the hysterectomy anyway then why have the laparoscopy at all.

A lot of what you decide depends on your age, level of pain, whether you would want more children ect.
Like I said before, go in and sit down with him and have him explain what he is wanting to do and why. Make you a list of things you want to know and ask him.
After all, it is your body and you know it best.

Good Luck,

Shelle1962

Hi Sandy, please remember that a hysterctomy is a MAJOR and DEFINITIVE surgery. You should agree to one only if YOUR are convinced it is the right thing for YOU.

I agree with Shelle: you should have the option of having the diagnostic lap first, find out what is wrong and THEN decide.

Personnally, I know that I would not be able to go ahead with a Hyst, if I had all those unanswered questions.

Good luck,
