Prep. for surgery - bladder "tack"

Questions, questions, questions!!! After I've been on the site for a while and I think I have all the answers, reading someone else's story will make me think of 20 more. Thanks to those who responsed to my HRT and weight questions. My hystersisters are the best! Has everyone had to have some sort of enema or "housecleaning" prior to surgery. I am having an TAH/BSO on May 9. They will also be doing a bladder suspension. Does this procedure prolong recovery time or come with additional surgical "discomfort"??

Prep. for surgery - bladder "tack"

Hi JudiV, like most ladies going in for a hyst, I had to do a bowel prep.

First, I had the pleasure doing one the day before my pre-op, in order to prepare for an IVP. I had to take the dreaded magnesium citrate, laxative pills AND a suppository. No fun, but cleaned me out real good.

Then, the day prior to my surgery, I was pleased that I only had to do a fleet enema, after supper.

All-in-all, it wasn't so bad. Most important, it meant that my bowels we cleaned, since I was also having rectocele repair.

It's yet another hurdle to jump before going to the castle.
