Finally got a date!
Hello all! Been visiting and posting on this site for a while now. I've gotten lots of support and good advice, and for that I than you all. After years of pain and horrible periods, three laprascopes, right oophrectomy, Lupron, and who knows how many other "let's try this" treatments, I finally will be having a TAH on Feb. 1st. I am elated that the pain will be over, but still a bit nervous. What do I do to prepare. I have exactly a month to dwell on the issue of having major surgery. I have 3 children under 6. My Momma is coming to stay to help during recovery. Thank God for Momma's. So many questions, so little time! LOL! What do I do for the next month so I don't just dwell on the surgery??? I'm not sure I'm worried about the surgery itself. I have complete trust in my doc. He's a good one! Just kinda apprehensive about the recovery. Do I allow myself to dwell, or keep busy and try not to think about it??? Any suggestions???

Finally got a date!
Im glad you got a date!! If at all possible, try to enlist help from your mom and anyone else for a coupla weeks. You will not be able to pick up the little ones for at least 6 weeks. I have 2 under 5 and its not that bad. Im dying to pick them up though. I reorganized my whole house b4 my surgery. I dont know why!!! I was happy when I was done though. Dont worry too muh. The waiting is the WORST part!!I promise. If you cook, prepare some meals to freeze so your family can just defrost and eat. I am sure I will have other suggestions, but for the time being, just relax and try not to dwell too much!!!!!

Finally got a date!
Hi,
I found that keeping busy, getting things in order and taken care of before the surgery helps.
Here is a link to our Articles page where Pre-op and Post-op articles will be of some help to you.

I wish you the best with your surgery and recovery, and hope the waiting is the only problem you will have.

Finally got a date!
Congrats on the date! I'm always amazed from these boards at how long they book out tho'. Mine was done in just under two weeks after I made my decision. Barely had time to dwell on it as I was so busy getting the house ready (spring cleaning variety and making casseroles for the freezer for the family to avoid pizza every night).
I'd suggest start training the kids to pick up after themselves. They can do that at about any age... Just remember that while you're down and out, your idea of clean vs. theirs are two totally separate ideas. You'll just have to accept that until you get back on your feet again.
You'll only get this one chance to heal properly - so take advantage of it while you can!

Finally got a date!
Congrats on getting a date. I know how you feel...I have had my date for over two months. My choice so as to not try to cram too much into December. Five kids keep me hoppin so it would have been too much then. Getting organized, reading up on the surgery, cooking ahead, etc. are all good things to do to help pass the time. I am amazed at how quickly it has gone by for me. This is now my month so I am starting to get just a little nervous about it all. Trusting God and just forging ahead! Take care and I will see you on the other side.
