Hello to all...
I'm 35 and having a total abdominal hysterectomy next Tuesday, Jan 10th...How long is the hospital stay and what limitations are expected and for how long? Also, I'd love recommendations on hormone replacement...
Thank you so much..

My hospital stay was three days. I had a tah. I am now a week post op. I pretty much have depended on my husband for everything this first week. I am now feeling like i can get up and do some things on my own. Good luck!

I was also in the hospital for 3 days. The first week don't do anything yourself. You will want to but trust me..don't. My husband waited on me hand and foot for about 8 weeks. It's very hard to depend on others but the best thing you can do for yourself is to let others help. Recovery is difficult but it you do too much too soon, you will pay the price and believe me it's not worth it. Good luck to you.

Have you checked out the Checkpoints on this site? They can be very helpful for determining what is acceptable at what point during your recovery--but remember we are all unique so we heal differently and you may find you feel better at some stages, or not quite as hot at others, that is "normal".

And we also have a whole Hormone Jungle with information about HRT and support for those choosing not to use HRT.

Best wishes to you for your upcoming surgery and I hope you find many supportive friends here at the site!

I was 56 when I had my surgery. I went in on Monday and was out on Thursday.

Do check out the CHECKPOINTS. I actually printed them all out and followed them religiously! They were extremely helpful. (I even gave the book to a friend who was going to have a TAH and also recommended this site.)

I never had hormone replacement so can't help there.

You will get tired easily. I still do even after 10 months. But I take a break and then keep going.

I went in on Thurs. out on Sat. My advice is to take your pain pills every 4-6 hours, they will get you through the first few days of pain. I am on the Climara patch, which has worked great for me. Doctor had it on me right after surgery. Good luck to you!
