Pre-op today, Can't stop crying

I had my preop yesterday, and my op is tomorrow.

My husband came with me (no u/s, but they did do an ekg). He was able to stay in the room. I am sure they will allow your son to wait outside during the u/s and then come back in with you.

You need to verbalize all of this to your doctor, or have your son tell him that you need him there to be able to remember things you might forget, or ask questions you didn't think to ask.

I brought a card of questions, and the nurse said O good, he LOVES to see questions!

He answered all my questions, and when my DH brought up my anxiety level and asked if I could have something to help calm me, he said absolutely. He gave me a script for xanax. I am really anxious, I was up late last night even after taking the xanax, and up early this morning. I did sleep though, so it helped!

Everyone I encountered (women), nurses, etc. said O you will be SO glad when this is over! Your quality of life will be greatly improved!

Take a moment of quiet solitude and pray. I pray in the morning, as I am an early riser and its peaceful and quiet. It helps tremendously.

Mary, please try to relax. I know that's easier said than done. Your body needs you to be relaxed. I know this is stressful and you want your mother with you. My mother passed away 6.5 years ago and I wished she could have had been with me. She's always with me in my heart and thus she was with me during my surgery. I asked her to hold my hand during surgery. She must have been there with me before and after surgery because I was relaxed pre-op and post-op I felt NO pain. I woke up in recovery feeling peaceful and painless. I'm blind as a bat without my glasses. When I looked around the recovery room it was like I had my glasses on. I guess that was my mother's way of letting me know she was still there. She didn't like the idea that I became dependent on glasses as a child.

Thinking of the positive aspects of surgery certainly helps but also allowing your spiritual side to step in is another big help. You should also discuss your feelings with your doctor. You'll also have instructions about what meds to take, particularly the day of surgery. I also have high blood pressure and I had instructions on what meds to take and not to take the day of surgery.

I read numerous posts during the pre-op days that waiting is the worst part. I had no idea what that meant until I got to the other side. Waiting is absolute torture. This website provided me so much help and support. I hope this website provides the same for you. Your sisters are here for you.

Best wishes and 's

Hello, I do not take any medications before and not after either. Like all the others are saying please be calm and try to relax about your decision on having the hyst. I was nervous also, did not have a clue to what I would be up against. Needless to say, I feel and look the best I have ever! As far as your son being with you to listen in, I would think that would be great, had my husband in there listening in case I forgot something... Wishing you all the luck, we're here for you.
