One week after surgery and feeling great!

This website has been very supportive and helpful before and after I had surgery. You ladies are special!

I have to say that I've read posts from people that dwell on the negative part of their hysterectomy experience and I think that scared me when I read them before my surgery. My experience has been nothing but good. No pain, no hormonal changes that I can tell because my doctor put a patch on me during surgery. (I had both of my ovaries removed during LAVH)

I think as long as you have trust in your doctor and are in generally good health, this surgery shouldn't be feared. I had surgery a week ago today and I feel wonderful. I'm starting to do little things around the house and hope to be back at work after week 3. My doctor supports my choice as long as the healing process has progressed accordingly.

I've read posts of women that are wanting their husband to wait on them hand and foot 8+ weeks after their surgery. Another one thinks she might have to have her doctor insert a femring each time it needs to be replaced. Oh dear! These ladies need to be a little more assertive in their own health care.

I am in tune with my body and feel comfortable with it. I've never dreaded menopause as my mother did very expressively to my sister and I. I also take responsibility for my attitude, which affects my health. I certainly didn't go into this surgery feeling like "woe is me" but rather I felt like I was doing the right thing and I would benefit from feeling better the rest of my life.

For me, my surgery has been a positive thing. I realize that not everyone has good experiences with any type of surgery, but think it is an exceptional few that have problems after a hysterectomy. I prefer to remain optimistic!

I certainly am glad I had it done and can't wait to get back to my normal routines.

Only getting better!

Same here...I searched everywhere trying to find positive stories regarding hysterectomy...and I found several...I had a TVH with RSO on Dec 16th and I'm already back to work...having to take it slow...but hanging in there...I had already, like you, made up my mind that this was going to be a positive experience...and so far it has been...I have yet to have sex, but even though I'm hesitant it's just something my DH and myself will work through...I only picture my life getting better!
Thanks for the positive!

3 months out from TAH BSO

I feel great after my surgery, but I had a very large abdominal incision which has taken quite a while to heal and is still extremely tender. Every woman is different and heals at a different rate.

You still have several weeks (months) to continue healing and may have a few hiccups on down the road. Be careful not to overdo it even though you feel great because you could short-change yourself on a good healing.

There are lots of positive stories out there. I'm one of them.

One week after surgery and feeling great!

I'm with you on this one.
it seems that this surgery wasn't too bad of a procedure
and I am kind of enjoying the opportunity to really focus on myself for a short bit. ( have discharge papers I could sell to friends. they read" morning, after rests...
no lifting over 10 lbs, and lots of nice walks!") I am
Also a week out and feeling good.
At age 52 I had already begun to work on menopausal changes so maybe that has helped...also there was a good reason to do the surgery , that also helps.
Having access to good info helps too, so thanks to all on this site.
Now, just the challenge to "not get stuck on stupid" and
do something to compromise a good recovery like overestimating what I can do based on a good day.
