This sounds like the bowel prep I had to do before my surgery last week. You can mix the phosphosoda in any clear liquid in any dilution as long as you drink a lot of water afterwards. I didn't have to do the enema, but I can't imagine there was anything left to remove after the two drinks. It wasn't pleasant, but I had plenty of energy to get to the castle on time. Perhaps that was adrenaline working! Good luck! You'll do great.

Bowel prep

My surgery is Monday and that sounds pretty much like the bowel prep I have to do tomorrow. But instead of the enema (sp) I have to take 4 dulocax tablets after.
I start at 9 tomorrow morning with the fleet phosoda than do that again at noon and take the tablets at 1PM I can only have clear liquids and nothing after midnight Sunday. My surgery isn't scheduled til 12:30 PM Monday have to be at the castle at 10:30 AM Like you I am very worried about this bowel prep and the surgery itself

((( pinktulips ))) did you tell your dr that it made you sick the last time you had to do it? Please call and let your dr know. Maybe he/she can suggest something different for you that you can do instead.

Best wishes.

Every doctor is different on this. Some don't do a bowel prep at all, while others do. I did not have to do the phosphsoda, but I did get two fleet enemas and no food or drink after midnight.

I agree with jeanus. Let your doctor know that it makes you sick, and perhaps you will be given some alternatives.

For those taking the phosophsoda, I took the advice of my fellow HysterSisters and put in the refrig to get it cold before taking it. I did not mix it with anything but, again on the advice given by my HysterSisters, drank white grape juice after taking it. It definitely kills the taste. I was also on clear liquids all day. No enema. Good luck to all of you on your upcoming surgies.

Judy,

Did you just take the phosphasoda without putting it in anything. Did your Dr. tell you to do it that way or did you just do it. I was thinking it might be easier to get it down by just taking 3 tablespoons instead of drinking 3 8oz. of something with it in. How long after you took it did it take to start working. Were you in the bathroom all day.

I did this a week ago for my dec 30th and was very very afraid. I had to take magnesium citrate and it really wasent that bad. You should ask about that, as its easily available (I found out after going to the pharmacy it's over the counter at the grocery store and walmart). Make sure to take it early in the day, I was told to start at 6pm but I started at 4pm, should have started earlier as I still has some to do in the morning. My energy was good, I did sleep the night before, but I also has a great nurse in my pre-op and she helped take away some of the nerves. I really don't know why some drs have you do it, when some don't but please tell them your troubles and make suggestions. I'll be happy to talk if you are worried!
