Mother of 2 under 2 very nervous
I am scheduled for a TAH in March. I have 2 children under 2 years old and am very nervous. I will have help with my Mom helping me, but so scared and sad about not being there for my babies. After surgery, how many days in hospital? How many days in bed? Are my hormones going to be out of whack? I am SO nervous! :confuse:

Hi Chanale,
I had a TAH/BSO and was in the hospital 2 nights. The first week home was the hardest.
I didn't stay totally in bed at home - went back and forth to the recliner alot. Maybe the kids could have some GENTLE snuggle/reading time with you.
My hormones were the worst about week 3 - crying over nothing...then it settled down. Will you keep your ovaries?
Hope your mom can help bunches those first 2 weeks. Rest!

Same here. TAH/BSO with two nights in the hospital. I didn't stay in bed either, but I spent a lot of time of the couch in my nightgown and robe. Walking is a little difficult because every step feels like its jarring the insides, but you will be able to move about without too much trouble. The little ones should be able to cuddle with you; just be careful of the tummy.
I'm 2-1/2 months out and have not had any major hormone issues.

You are going to need to call in every favor that you possibly can from friends and relatives to help with your little ones. Remember that you have one time, and one time only, to recover from this surgery and you want to do it right.
When I was pregnant with my last son (a million years ago) his brother was 18 months old. I was on strict bedrest for 6 weeks. I owed lots of people for a very long time. I was amazed then and again with this surgery how kind and good people truly are.
One of the lessons I learned then and again since I've recovered are that there is more than one way to do something and it doesn't have to be my way!
I was able to keep my ovaries and have been fine (knock on wood)!
Best of luck to you and your young family
