Couple things I am doing pre-op

Hi Sisters!

Here are two things (among many others!) that I have done pre-op. Helps to ease my mind a bit for some of my fears and may help with yours too:

1) someone in an earlier post had recommended an herbal laxitive tea - Smooth Move. I tried one very similar with senna leaves, and it did work very smooth and gentle. I wanted to now what I was in for so I wouldn't have any surprises - I think I will use this method to help 'get things going'.

2) I just bought Zero-gravity pillows from Relax The Back store. I am so excited about this purchase!!! I have a history of having a bad back and I am really scared that with the weaken abdominal muscles - my back will fall apart. What the Zero-gravity pillows do is provide support for your back -like a wedge pillow but adjusts to three position 1)upright, 2) reclining, and 3) lying down. There is also a separate pillow that you use to elevate your legs - which puts your back at zero-gravity..... no pressure and completely relaxing! I am also supposing it will help me get out of bed easier because I will already be partially upright and won't have to strain by abs early on.

Hope this may help some of you other ladies in waiting!

Couple things I am doing pre-op

Hi Tulips -

I am soooo lucky I don't have to do bowel prep~! My heart goes out to you after reading the other's comments on the subject. The herbal laxitive tea's main ingredient is senna leaves. I don't think it is sufficent for bowel prep, more of something to help with constipation or to help prevent it.

Ask you doctor anyway - maybe a couple days of the tea will make your prep easier.....

Good luck on the 12th! I hope to see you on the site telling us how wonderful you are doing before I go to the castle on the 19th!

Couple things I am doing pre-op

Another pre-surgery thing I did and found so helpful was reading Peggy Huddleston's, Prepare for Surgery, Heal Faster and listening to the tape you can order with it. It's a great tape to help relax. I also used the tape at the hospital before and after the surgery. One of the items it suggested was when people asked what they could do to help was to have them take a moment and think positive thoughts of me when I was scheduled to go into surgery. It said to tell them to wrap you in a warm blanket (you tell them the color of blanket you want them to wrap you in). I had many people thinking of me at that time and I felt very cuddled at the time of my surgery. My sister came to the hospital the next day and brought me a yellow (color I picked) very cuddly blanket and I used it all the time. She brought me bright yellow flowers too!

Take Care,
