Bladder Question

Hi ladies! I've been reading from a lot of you about having to have *something* done to your bladders during different types of hysts. I find out Tuesday whether or not I have to have a hyst at all (probable due to cancer), but I hadn't thought about the bladder thing until now. Is something always done with your bladder during any type of hyst or do they sometimes leave it alone? Just curious. I'm not having any problems related to urination, etc.

Bladder Question

Hi Meg,

I had a LSH and I did not have a bladder sling. I was experiencing bladder incontinence in pre-op and my Dr. felt it was from my two large fibroids pressing on my bladder. For me that has been true since my bladder works great in post-op.

I am sure some ladies will post who have had bladder slings done.

Best wishes,

Bladder Question

I had to have a bladder sling because my bladder was prolapsed as well as my uterus. I was having problems pre-op. My bladder was my initial complaint. That was when I found out my uterus was prolapsed. Good luck.

Bladder Question

I had many adhesions from 3 prior surgeries and my doctor spent an extra hour in surgery scraping them off my bladder. It was very tender for the first 6-8 weeks. Did not have a bladder sling. Everything functioning normally now.

Bladder Question

Hi Meg,
Most women with bladder repairs have either incontinence or endo attached to the bladder. If you have no problems, you shouldn't need any bladder work. Incontinence becomes more common as we age. Hopefully, you will hear good news and won't need a hyst.

Bladder Question

Hey Meg,
I didn't have a bladder repair during my radical hysterectomy. I did have a suprapubic catheter for a few weeks after surgery. I wasn't crazy about it, but it wasn't too bad. Especially right after my surgery it was sort of nice to not have to get up and down a lot. It was just a small tube that came out of my abdomen and attached to a bag. Later I was able to cap it and stop using the bag. Not everyone has one. I think my doctor does it to give the bladder a chance to heal after surgery.

Good luck to you.
