Lifting restrictions (children discussed)

So many questions...but for the moment I am wondering what kind of lifting instuctions you ladies recieved. I know I won't be able to pick up my 2 yr old for a while, but what about the baby? She weighs 11 lbs. And could I hold her sooner if someone handed her to me? I will ask my doctor at my pre-op but until then I was just wondering...
This site helps me stay sane. Thanks

Lifting restrictions (children discussed)

I have a three year old who weighs about 33lbs, couldn't lift her for about 8 weeks. I wasn't allowed to lift anything over 10lbs for four weeks, and if it hurt to lift anything after the four weeks were up, then I wasn't allowed to do it. I stopped hurting completely after picking up heavy things, including my DD, around 12 weeks. Please ask your doctor about lifting your baby. I was able to hold my DD as long as I had a pillow covering my stomach and and as long as someone handed her to me. I was able to train her to gently climb onto my lap and I was able to hold her then.

I have 2 kids under 5. I started holding my son again when necessary at a little over 3 weeks. I feel fine physically. My dr. would probably kill me if she found out and i wouldnt reccomend it, but I had NO help, so it was kinda not a choice for me at the time!!!!!!!!!

Do you tend to be a slow healer or fast? I am a slow healer. I really recommend you be sure to have help at for several weeks. I have a 4,5,6 and 12 year old. Much bigger than yours yes but I had a friend staying with an 11month old and 2 year old when I was 9 wks post-op and I still could not hold them without pain. I did it though...those little cuddles were just so worth it! I could not have done it all the time though. I had full time help for my kids for two weeks post-op and boy am I glad. I NEEDED it!
Three months post-op now and going strong....glad to have had the surgery.
goodluck,
juliane
