Scar tissue?

I have just been scheduled for a total hysterectomy on 4/25/01. My ultrasound came back normal, but the GYN said all my pain was because of scar tissue. I had a gall bladder surgery, 2 years ago, and the surgeon cut my bile duct by mistake. They had to repair it by taking some of my small intestines and made it a bile duct. I have extensive scar tissue and now apparently the scar tissue has attatched to all my female organs. Just wanted to see if anyone else has had problems because of scar tissue. Would love to hear any input anyone can give.
Thank you!

Scar tissue?

I JUST HAD MY HYSTERECTOMY ON 4/9/01, I HAD LOTS OF SCAR TISSUE FROM PREVIOUS SURGERIES, MY SURGERY WAS A LITTLE COMPLICATED BECAUSE OF ADHESIONS WHICH IS BASICALLY SCAR TISSUE, IT IS AS MY DR. DESCRIBED GLUE, IN MY CASE IT DISTORTED MY ORGANS AND STUCK THEM TOGETHER, I HAD TO HAVE MY UTERUS CUT AWAY FROM MY BOWELS, AND HAVE BOWELS RESECTIONED, ALL WENT O.K I WAS IN THE HOSPITAL A FEW DAYS LONGER THAN NORMAL BUT I AM FELLING BETTER AND ON MY WAY TO A GOOD RECOVERY.

Scar tissue?

I had lots of adhesions before my surgery and my dr says they are from endo. I also had my gallbladder removed 10 years ago, but I'm not sure if scar tissue would have moved all the way down to my pelvis from my upper abdominal area? I didn't have anything done to my intestines during that gallbladder surgery, but I suppose there could be a connection in addition to the endo problems. I was on Lupron prior to my surgery (for four months), so my dr didn't find any active endo....just lots of adhesions and my left ovary and tube all wrapped up in my small intestine. I asked my dr about the products that are placed in the abdomen during surgery to help prevent additional scar tissue from forming afterwards, but he says he's had mixed results with it and he wasn't going to be using it on me. He told me that getting up and moving as soon as possible after my surgery would help to prevent scar tissue from forming; not a guarantee, but it should help. My recovery has been pretty uneventful. I'm nearly 8 weeks post op and feeling pretty good. Belly still tender, but my dr said that is to be expected because he had to do a lot of extra cutting to get all the adhesions out.

Scar tissue?

I also had a lot of adhesions at my last surgery (laparoscopy in 1990), so I also expect that I will have a lot for my TAH/BSO on May 9th. My doctor wanted my permission to open me up at the time to "clean me out", but I didn't want to go back into surgery again. I have lots of bladder/bowel problems, which is a clue and lots of swelling and pain. I was reading about a type of cellulose material called Interceed that I plan to talk to my doctor about that can be put inside to prevent further adhesions. I guess your body absorbs it gradually, but it prevents the long, rubber band-binding adhesions from forming. You might want to bring it up to your doctor to see if he/she recommends anything like this. Hang in there-I can't help but think that we will just feel a heck of a lot better, like Lori, to get this stuff out of us.
