Just got my period...Is this a problem?

Please let me know if they will still do this surgery due to the fact that I just got my period today. I can't believe it, 3 days to go, and WHAM!!!

I am in horrible pain due to this. But what timing.....
Today I go in for another visit to the Dr. and I haven't visited with the aneshesiologist yet, hopefully that will be soon. My son came up with the idea of not eating too much on Wednesday so Thursday when I start the lovely and much anticipated BOWEL PREP , lol then there won't be too much in my stomach, good idea I think. Anyway, please need to know, is my period going to stop the surgery?, Any advice would be greatly appreciated....Hopefully this is the last one....

Mary

Just got my period...Is this a problem?

Hey Mary,
Thought I would let you know I was having my period when they did my surgery. Actually, I had been bleeding so long that question never crossed my mind. The day of my surgery was my 78 th day in a row to have a period. Then I had 2 days discharge !!!! Now I am rid of that forever ! Good luck.

Just got my period...Is this a problem?

Hi Mary, Best of luck to you. I don't think having your period will be a problem, but I'm not 100% sure. I think I remember someone asking that same question and the sisters said no that wasn't a problem. Just for your piece of mind I would give your Dr a quick call and check. I hope this helps Take good care! Melanie

Just got my period...Is this a problem?

Hi Mary,

The bleeding itself is not a problem. My period started the day before my surgery, and it wasn't a problem. Surgeons don't mind blood - if they did they wouldn't be surgeons. I did hear of one surgery that was postponed because of very severe anemia caused by an extra heavy period right before surgery. Call your Doc and ask if it will give you peace of mind.

S,
Kay

Just got my period...Is this a problem?

Hi,
I started my period the day before I had my TAH (Dec. 22nd). I wore a tampon to the hospital and when the dr. came to visit me before they took me to surgery, I told him I had a tampon in. He said that I could go in the bathroom before they took me up to surgery and remove it. It was not a problem at all. I did go and take it out before they took me and had a little celebration that it was my last one I would ever use!

Just got my period...Is this a problem?

I was on my period when I had my TAH on December 20, 2005. The doctor told me that was good because I would bleed less after the surgery. She was right-I only spotted for one day and nothing after that. Celebrate-this is your last one forever!!!!
