Hysterectomy scheduled for Monday & now a mammogram issue ??

Has anyone ever had this happen & what did you do? I am scheduled for a hysterectomy on Monday, Jan 16th. It's supposed to be a LAVH (taking out everything). I went for my pre-op lab work at the hospital this afternoon. When I got home from that, I had a message on my answering machine, from my regular dr.'s office.... saying that the report from my mammogram (done last week) came back showing some sort of "difference" in the right breast... from my mammogram in 2003. I hadn't had one for 2 years. Bad me!! So, they see something on this mammogram that they are concerned about. Anyway, now they want me to go back for a follow up mammogram and a sonogram of my right breast.... and I am having surgery on Monday!! I am wondering if I should go through with the hysterectomy.... and then have the mammogram & sonogram in a few weeks.... OR... cancel the hysterectomy and look into the breast issue first?? What if I end up having to have a breast lump removed soon? That would really stink.... after just having a hysterectomy!! Any thoughts or advice?

Boy....that's a tough situation.....

If I were you I would ask your Dr. what his/her opinion is on which problem should take priority. Not knowing why you are having the hyst makes it difficult to give advice.

Ask your Dr. Hopefully that will help with your decision.

Let us know how things go...

Hi Kim,

((HUGS)) to your situation. I would call them and explain what's happening. They usually keep some times open for cases that need to be taken care of immediatly, and should be able to squeeze you in tomorrow or Friday if they feel it can't wait until you've recovered from your surgery. They should be able to tell you if you can pospone your mammo, for 4-5 weeks. I had one 4 weeks post-op (TAH) and it wasn't too bad. Hoping everything works out for you.

Good Luck ((BIGHUGS))
