Just how much could a grapefruit sized uterus weigh?

Just wondering....my uterus was grapefruit sized and I had everything taken out....uterus with fibroids, ovaries, tubes, and cervix. So how much could all that weigh? I have lost 10 lbs since surgery. Some of that I know is because I haven't had the appetite I did before the surgery. But, I wonder if some of that was because of all the stuff I had removed. Does this sound stupid or what? LOL! PS My jeans have never fit so good!!

You're intellectually curious.......therefore, no question is stupid.

Your doc's office will be happy to provide you with the pathology report. It will tell you exactly how much yours weighed. It is highly unlikely that it accounts for the 10 pounds. Most of us have found it amazing just how little all this stuff does weigh! I had a uterus, full of golf-ball sized fibroids ("Your uterus looked like a lumpy canteloupe.")...plus eight more surrounding my uterus that were orange and grapefruit sized. Once weighed in the lab, with my cervix, it added up to just about 6 pounds.

Don't be shy about asking your doc's office nurse.......they have this info in your file.

Take care...............s.....Deb

I was also very curious as I knew I'd lost weight after my op, and my lower abdomen felt so much flatter.
I requested my pathology report and amongst other things, and it said my uterus and cervix weighed .958grams (probably at couple of lb) but I was surprised.
I was told my uterus was 2mth size, which I compared to pregnancy.

I was told that each centimeter inside equals an inch outside (if your fibroid is 2 cm, then your outside measurement would be 2 inches bigger) so after surgery, your measurements should change (you might have to wait for ALL the swelling to disappear) but I cannot comment on the actual weight aspect.

I also had a similar situation. I lost 10lbs after all the swelling was gone and it felt so wonderful. Not to discourage you or anything but that was four weeks ago and I'm now dieting because I gained it all back!
I think the doc said 900 and some odd mg.'s so it did weigh less than expected but during all this our appetites drop substaintialy.
