My Second Opinion!

This is a hard decision to make and I think I would just second guess myself to death if I had more time to think on it. That's just the kind of person I am. I have 3 great kids who are all teenagers now. My dh and I decided before I knew anything about fibroids that we didn't want anymore kids. I am afraid to wait and have the thing grow bigger. I know for sure it wasn't there a year and a half ago at my last pelvic exam. Have you had a good experience with your TAH Livesoul?

Betty,

All in all, I think it went pretty smoothly. No major complications. By no means easy, of course. I will say that my fibroids seemed to be fast growing as well and the labs were clean on all. I knew that there was a chance of cancer but neither my surgeon nor I were too concerned. The odds were very low and I guess I'd dealt with that possibility in the past so maybe it was easier this time. This is the hardest part - you'll make the right decision!

My Second Opinion!

Thanks for your reply livesoul. This has been the hardest decision of my life and either way I go I gamble. If I leave it in and it grows bigger then I have a more difficult surgery and maybe a vertical incision. If I opt to have the hyst. then I may be in for complications. I have decided to have the surgery and roll the dice that way. I hope and pray for the best.

My Second Opinion!

To: Torrie,

Thank-you for posting your reply about cervical cancer and HPV. In my opinion also, it is an area we Hyster Sisters need to be more educated on. You posted some very interesting stuff.

Best wishes,

Mary

My Second Opinion!

Thanks for all the info. Torrie. I had moderate to severe dysplasia a year and a half ago and I have HPV. I don't think healthy organs should be removed either but my cervix has already proven itself to be unhealthy so it's going.

My Second Opinion!

Sexual function for me has been just fine since removal of the cervix, actually better than before, I think, and my husband can tell no difference (except that I'm pestering him a bit more for playtime!). Goodbye Pap smears, no chance of a mini-period, that was enough reason for me, and it was the advice of my surgeon as well. I am one satisfied sister!

My Second Opinion!

Boop38,

Yes, it is appropriate to remove the cervix if you have HPV.
