Retrocele-need Some Help

I have learned that the ones that can talk big about
themselves is what they do best. There is not a Uro/Gyn around here and I don't even know one in
the next city. There is a medical school about 2 hrs
away, but don't know if I want to go there or not.
One of the problems I have is believing that all women
can be helped with these surgeries, I know several
who continue to have problems after their surgeries.
How long since your repair? Were you in a lot of pain,
or just pressure and bowel problems?

Thank you for this thread

Since my hyst last April, I've been suffering with constipation, pelvic pressure and pain and the feeling that my bowel has fallen sideways. My GYN referred me to a gastroenterologist who said I probably have IBS and suggested changes to my diet (which haven't helped). But that doesn't explain why I have to press on my vaginal wall to have a BM.

I think I'll look for a uro/gyn and see if they can help me. I'm almost back to my pre-hyst pain level, and it's not pleasant

slt,
I understand your skepticism. I had a grade 3 vaginal vault prolapse with enterocele, rectocele, cystocele and other repairs as well. I did feel lucky to have a Urogyn and I just happen to really like him and trust him, but I did have to have my sling released about 11 monthes after the surgery because I was retaining urine. My opinion is...there are no guarantees with any surgery..boy! do I wish there was. Since my hyst I have had 3 more gynecological surgeries...if you would have asked me way back at the time of the hyst if I thought I would have to go through all this other stuff I wouldn't have had a clue. It seems that the whole thing is just a gamble and I don't blame you for not wanting to have something else done. In the end maybe it just depends on how bad our symptoms are and how much it effects our dailey lives. I went as long with my prolapses as I could and then I just made the decision that that was that and I was going to have to have something done about it. There are no pat answers to any of it. By the way, my urogyn told me at the outset that there were no guarantees to the surgery, but I personally am glad I had it done if for no other reason than it was embarrassing to me to even have intercourse with my husband with everything hanging out not to mention the fact that it was very hard to have a bowel movement, to pee, and it was just plain uncomfortable. But, I think having surgery we have to have our heads in it to be prepared for it if you know what I mean and if our head isn't in it then it's probably best just not to have it.

Retrocele-need Some Help

I have that tailbone pain once and a while and I have a grade 3 rectocele. When it hits me I have to do deep breathing to get through the pain. I have been taking stool softeners since surgery (I didn't get the rectocele fixed) and eating Shredded Wheat w/Bran cereal. That keeps me going mostly and when it doesn't I my doctor told me to give myself warm water enema's - that works - but it's gross.
Good Luck - I am currently researching to see if I can have the Rectocele fixed (there is a great chance that I could end up with a colostomy ) I changed my mind about having it fixed because I have to have my cystocele fixed again - I figure if possible I want it fixed after all. Plus it feels like my rectum is falling out now.

Retrocele-need Some Help

Miss Emma that was so well put! Actually I do believe
that I am better than I have been, and nothing is
falling out, if I have a rectocele it is mild, and on the
Metamucil regiment is working quite well. It is just
when things are positioned just right something is
pushing or pulling on nerves. I think I am having more
better days now than not. I am getting my hormones
squared away and my vaginal tissues are better. I am able to use
the vaginal estrogen cream, now that I have the tissues
calmed down, and I did that with, of all things, Olive
oil, that has helped as much as anything. Thanks for
all your replies.

Susan,
If you don't mind me asking...did you rub the olive oil on or insert it or what?

Retrocele-need Some Help

Hi..am soon to have a third repair op for rectocele and cystocele. I am also suffering tailbone pain, lower back ache and a feeling of sitting on something. My symptoms also do not show up on clinical physical examination but so far anyway, do show themselves in surgery. It is so frustrating when the specialists cannot see what we are complaining about Find someone who listens to you!

Sherry, I put the oil on the inside and some on the
out side if needed, it is kind of oily but it does the
trick for me. It has calmed the tissues down enough
for me to use the vaginal estrogen, which I could
never use before. I kept hearing women rave about
how much it helped them, but my tissues would be
so irritated by it I could never use it. I can't believe I
have gone all these 5 yrs with this condition and a simple
thing like Olive oil has helped. This regiment along with
the rectal compound, I believe has brought me to a better level of relief, and I say belief because everytime
I think I am better, things tend to decline, but I have
felt better here lately. I think I have been getting a lot
of referred pain from the tissues and didn't realize that
was what it was.
This is changing the subject, but I feel so bad for Scriv
having these multple repairs, what is up with this, I
see it over and over again, I believe that whatever has
caused it to prolapse in the first place continues to be
a problem, why can't they do something about this or
at least tell us what is going on, I have finally figured
most of it out over these past years, but it has been
like a big secret with the Dr.s. That feeling of sitting
on something is what I felt with my enterocele, which
all those cele's are just the bowel pushing down in the
place of least resistance. I have heard of a procedure
called Pro-lift which I think it is something put in there
to hold things up, does anyone know anything about this? As far as listening, it is so difficult to engage anyone, it is no wonder they can't help us. When I
went to the Urologist for the first time, he just sat there looking down barely scaning all the records I sent,
saying "yea, yea, sure, sure, sure" it was so funny, you
could tell he got about a 1/3 of what information I brought to him on paper or words, The only time he looked over at me was when I got so frustrated I raised
my voice and said " I've got the vagina from HELL and
there are 3 counties praying for it!!!" he started shaking
his head like " please I've heard enough" at least it got
his attention
Sherry hope this helped, you are welcome to PM me
or e-mail.

Did you get lower back ache with the enterocele slt? No one has mentioned that to me, but I have wondered. The anus is bulging and I am worrying now that there are internal haemorrhoids in there, confusing the symptoms, but I don't know what I am talking about really. Would I know if it were haemorrhoids and not a 'cele'?
