Found what was causing my pain for nearly 2 yrs

Hi Betty,

I too had a rectocele after my TAH/BSO and finally ended up at an "expert's" at a well known hospital, who immediately wanted to take me to surgery. Well, after all I'd been through, the OR was the last place I wanted to go again, and having learned my lesson from the TAH/BSO, I immediately went to another famous hospital for a second opinion. The second doctor said, yes, there was a rectocele, but before surgery, he wanted to try less drastic measures. The first thing he prescribed was HRT and after some vaginal estrogen treatment, my vaginal walls plumped back up. Then, with some careful monitoring of my food and regular, ongoing NHRT my rectocele improved drastically.

So there you have it, two world reknowned doctors from two different hospitals with very, different opinions.

I guess what I'm trying to say is this; yes, I think it's good to go to specialist and well known hospitals, but don't ever give up thinking for yourself and ALWAYS, no matter where you go, get a second opinion before ANY kind of surgery!

Good luck to you . . . please keep us updated on your progress.

I forgot to mention . . .
The doctor who treated my rectocele (successfully) with hormones is also the doctor who thought to do the X-ray. He's considered one of the top doctors in America and I'm convinced it's because he takes his time and really listens to his patients. A lost art.

Sometimes I think doctors get so caught up in all the action that they forget to stop, think and try the simple things first. Sometimes, less is more.
