TVH tomorrow---superbowl party today!!??

I had my TVH Feb 1. The day before ate very lightly and drank lots of water. At my pre-op I was told no alcohol at least 24 hrs prior to anestetic (sp??). I did not have a bowel prep, but wanted to be as empty as possible to make it easier for the surgery as well as in recovery as I get nauseous from a general. I would say use common sense, everyone is different, but it is better to be proactive than reactive. Good Luck tomorrow and enjoy the game tonight. See you on the other side.

What did your doctor tell you regarding eating and drinking prior to surgery.....did he give you a time limit? I had a LAVH and was told clear liquids only for 24 hours prior to surgery and then no food or liquids after midnight. My surgery was scheduled for 12 noon the next day. Good luck!!!

Enjoy yourself! The night before my surgery, I went out for a lovely dinner and a movie with friends. I knew I wouldn't be up for anything like that for a while! My doc's instructions were no food after midnight and nothing to drink after 4 am. My surgery was at 10 am. I had no bowel prep etc. I sure wouldn't miss the festivities and yummy treats! Good luck tomorrow!

I think you probably shouldn't drink alchohol, but if the doc didn't give you any bowel prep then eat what you like. Eat some for me. I'm having a LSH tomorrow and I have to drink clear liquids today. No pizza and cake for me at the super bowl. I dread the bowel prep. I hope I don't miss too much of the game running to the bathroom. Good luck to you.

Alcohol acts as a blood thinner and can increase your bleeding from surgery. I would strongly advise against it. It also temporarily damages your liver, which is going to take another hit from general anesthesia. In a word, DON'T.

Go Seahawks! Sorry I'm showing my colors...had to get a wee bit into the spirit as I live north of Seattle. Have a wonderful time and enjoy family and friends. Best of luck on your surgery regardless of what side of the field you are cheering for.

Probably alcohol isn't a good thing- or maybe one tiny glass?
