No longer delayed!

Hello all,

For those of you that read my post about the delay in my radiation I wanted to give an update. I saw the GI doctor about the bowel movement problems Wednesday. He decided I did not need the colonoscopy.
We think it is a fissure.... which is no picnic but with new medication he said I can go ahead and start. So I started radiation today!! I am very happy to get started. The whole thing just took minutes. I'm now one day down. They also gave me the low residue diet to follow. Wow.... does this low residue diet go against everything we have learned? I would appreciate any feedback about how closely you followed the diet during radiation. How many of you had problems with diarrhea and if you did were you following the diet?

Thanks so much for any info.

Zoe

Hi Zoe,

I just completed day 4 of my radiation....still OK, however, I do feel a burning in my abdomen, not sure if it is mental, or if it is real. Good Luck....you know you are in my prayers. I still feel rather uncomfortable near my belly button, not sure what that is about.

Hi Zoe,

I'm so glad you were able to go ahead and start the treatments. I'm sorry I can't help with the diet side either I can tell you during my chemo treatments, I wasn't really given a specific diet, just told to eat whatever I could.

I'll keep you in my prayers that your treatments are quick, painless and successfull! Please keep us posted on how you're doing.

{{hugs}}

Thanks to all for your response. I guess I'll give the diet a try and see how I do. Valentina, I forgot to ask you about the burning. You have finished four days right? Have you asked the doctor about it or did you just notice it. Gee let me know how that goes.

Zoe, I am so glad that you were able to start the treatments. The diet does go against any healthy diet you may have tried to stick to in the past. Salad and fresh veggies are out. Bananas, pasta, rice, potatoes will be your staples. The diarrhea doesn't start right away with some people. Mine started a couple of weeks later although I had nausea from the first day and threw up the whole way (1 and 1/2 hours) home from the hospital. There are anti-nausea meds that they can give you. The diet did help but in the end I got the diarrhea even with the diet and the lomodil, a drug they gave me which was prescription. I got used to it and learned not to go too far from a bathroom.Actually, I started my radiation on December 16th and the diarrhea started on Christmas day after Christmas dinner! The Lord certainly has a sense of humor. I hope everything goes well for you and I will be watching for your updates. Take care and God Bless.
