I've been told to go in 7.30 am Friday and that I'll be having my staples out on Tuesday and home the same day. Hence I am taking ear plugs so I can sleep! Good luck to those who are waiting. xx

I went in early Wednesday morning and was released late Saturday evening. I had to have a blood transfusion on Friday - if it hadn't been for that, I may have been able to go home on Friday.

I know it's not much fun to be in the hospital, but take advantage of all of the help the nurses provide. The first few days are rough, so you will be glad to just rest and not have to worry about "stuff" at home.

Take care....you will do just fine!

Hi,

It seems that the length of stay depends on many things. Where you live; if your insurance only covers a certain amount of hospital time. Your doctor's preference of how long. If you have any complications etc. What kind of surgery you are having.

I was originally booked for a TVH and 3 nights stay in hospital. I ended up with TAH, bladder repair and a few days later, ureter repair and stayed 7 nights. Doc wanted me to stay longer, but I wanted to go home! For a typical TAH, she said I would stay 5 nights. So check with your Doc. Personally, if you're having a TAH, I would count on 4-5 nights. It won't hurt to have Mom come in early, in case you're discharged sooner. She will have everything ready for you at home and can visit with you in hospital. My Mom was a GodSend in all this. I could not have done this without her. I have been telling her that everyday for the past 4 weeks. Good luck.

I went in Monday for a TAH (kept ovaries) I had some complications so I was able to leave Thursday. Will be calling Monday, as I am having problems with gas pains and have not pooped in a week hence my trying everything in the book. My DR. was great. Needed an emer. cat scan, ultrasound, and x-ray and he never left my side.
