Has anyone ever asked to see the parts that were removed?

Doc showed me my pics the day after surgery. The shape of the uterus was what I would have imagined based on how the fibroids felt thru my abdomen. But seeing the pics was still an eye-opener to me. I could not believe I had that thing in me for years! I felt a little down after seeing those pics because I realized that I allowed myself to suffer needlessly.

It's funny but I was standing at the kitchen sink this morning when I suddenly realized my protruding abdomen was no longer resting on the sink. It has been years since I stood that close to the sink. Ah, what a difference a few hours of surgery can make.

The picture of the uterus (before and AFTER it was morcellated) I plan to BURN as my revenge LOL!!!! You should be able to find out the total weight of your uterus as this is a normal part of the pathlogy report......mine weighed THREE TIMES what the Dr. though it would.........Boy,was he suprised I WAS NOT ,seeing as it was inside of me and I havd to suffer the pain!!!!

I never thought about having the Dr. take pictures, but I have thought about asking her if I can bring it all home in a bag so I can take it out in the yard, kick it around for a bit, stomp on it, then poke it with a pointy stick just to get back at it for the misery it's caused me for such a long time!

Has anyone ever asked to see the parts that were removed?

my mother had a hysterectomy 20 years ago and still had her polaroid pictures. We compared pictures.... everyone has always been concerned on how large my cervix was... in looking at her pictures, I know where I got it from!!! It helped me to understand the reasons that I was having problems and to settle within myself that I really had it removed.....

Has anyone ever asked to see the parts that were removed?

I am planning to ask mine!! I asked after my last lap and he was nice enough to explain in detail my pictures that he took. He is super sweet and I am very lucky to have him caring for me. I don't know what his answer will be, but I would settle for pictures again!!
Good luck!

I never thought of that, since i was supposed to have had my uterus taken out twice now i wish i had thought of it both times. I am really greatful for the doctor i had last time though she has been really good, seems to be thorough and very caring. kind of wish i went to her the first time or even just listened to my general practioner when he said you need to have a total hysterectomy. we all learn from our mistakes.

If you want, you can click on "my photos" to see a couple of great shots of my uterus post-op (not for the faint of heart, of course ). It's the strangest looking thing -- looks kind of like a balloon.

I'd ask for pictures. You can always just look once and never look again, or you may find them fascinating! And it does help to have physical evidence of what was removed -- at least it helped me.
