Dry patchy spots on my arms

I have noticed in the past several weeks I get dry patchy spots on my upper arms. They don't itch, aren't upraised, just patchy and dry. Lotion helps while it is still there, but I have found nothing that really helps.

I am wondering if anyone else has this problem, and if it could be hormonal...or if I should just see my regular doctor about it.

Thanks. T

Dry patchy spots on my arms

Hi,
I get the same thing! I didn't have them until after my hysterectomy. The doctor said that it's from taking too hot of showers, but I don't think so!

Good luck!

Dry patchy spots on my arms

I have suffered from dry exzyma since my DD was born. I get patches, some as small as a dime and others about the size of a 1/2 dollar, of dry flaky skin that is sometimes itchy.
I have been given cortizone creams from my dermatologist but the best thing that I found to get rid of the patch was Oil of Olay sensitive skin moisturizing lotion. It's relatively inexpensive and has no perfumes or irritants. Their shower gel and body lotion work well too.
Hot showers and baths in the winter are not good for your skin, has a nasty habit of drying out your skin so try to keep the water temperature around 104-110.

Using lotions and creams that keep your body moist is a good way to practice your pampering. No time like the present to start.

All the best with your surgery and lots of 's

I get the dry patches on my hands and elbows. Doc says it's from my hot showers also. I found out the new lotion by Gold Bond works great. It feels so good and it doesn't leave my hands greasy. Marie 10

I get very dry patches on my elbows too. I use really intense hand cream on it- the sort that's very greasy. I try to remember every day but as soon as I forget for a few days they return.

hi Tammy! It sounds like it could be eczema. It is caused not only by an allergic reaction to perfumes, dyes, other chemicals, even foods, but also by hormonal changes and stress. I've been dealing with it for years. I would venture to guess that you are having a ton of stress. I would see the doctor about it-he/she should be able to help you with cortisone cream and maybe something for the stress. I would also do what the ladies here recommended regarding shower temps, plain soaps (that includes laundry soaps, no fabric softener-quarter cup of vinegar works but leaves no scent, they have dyeless and perfumeless dryer sheets) and lotions. I love Aveeno.
Good luck with that and keep us posted regarding the insurance company too. Just venting can help with the stress.
