Cervix always removed with VH?

Does anyone know if the cervix is always removed with a vaginal hysterectomy? I know the doc's planning on leaving my ovaries, and I'm presuming the Fallopian tubes go with the uterus, but I'm trying to get my head round the logistics of it all. I've read one book that says the cervix is always removed with a VH but just wondered if anyone knew differently.

Cervix always removed with VH?

There is a procedure for keeping the cervix with a vaginal hysterectomy, but only a few DRs do it. So, for all intents and purposes, yes, if you have a vaginal hysterectomy, they'll be removing the cervix.

Ahh no!

I have been looking everywhere for this info as I wasnt informed that this was the case...not happy with it either. Gonna have to speak to my surgeon about this before surgery.

Cervix always removed with VH?

I'm not attached to keeping mine; back as a teen I had genital warts and consequently a dodgy smear. The next smear had returned to normal but I'm working on the assumption that I'm a higher risk through having been exposed to the HPV virus, so am quite happy to see mine go.

Hi again
i can understand your reason and reaction but my surgeon just decided I was having a VH and gave no explanation. At my Dr's this morning he said they had written and said I had Cervical erosions but they never actually examined me! And Im not happy losing something that hasnt caused me any problems, only pleasure!

Cervix always removed with VH?

I had tvh done and lost cervix. I also had a cervical erosion that did not respond to treatment. I am not upset at losing my cervix because as far as I was concerned it was not as it should be. I'll be glad to have no more smear tests. It used to take up to 5 tests to get a clear reading(not pleasant). I also felt that it would be one part of me less able to contract cancer.
